First off I want to say that I have the deepest RESPECT for all NURSES,

i have been thinking I really wanted to be a NURSE but if any one who is thinking about

becoming an RN honestly wants to find out if the profession is for you and if the desire to be an RN is real then become a CNA , you will know in short time if NURSING is for you,

this is what I am doing so believe me I know what I'm talking about,

i believe this is the best advice I can give to anyone who thinks they want to be an RN

and is in doubt.

I think people who believe nursing is about cute scrubs and even cuter doctors could benefit from time as a CNA.

Literally laughed out loud. Thank you for that! Haha

I'm not telling you it's going to be easy, I'm telling you it's going to be worth it.

Disagree. The nurse job is totally different can not be compared. I have never been a CNA but I was a critical care tech in the e.r and even that is different but every nurse has different responsibilities as well because a e.r nurse does far more than a nurse on a regular floor at a hospital. Nurse at LTC does different than nurse in ICU . Now I'm a LPN and working home are and that's different than being in acute or LTC so that's not very good advice

I don't think being a CNA tells you anything about if nursing is right for you. Being a CNA is nothing like being a nurse.

Thank all of you who have visited and commented when I said the best advice I could give was to become a CNA I am only saying this from my own personal limited experience in the this kind of career I believe that ( for me ) it is better to work in my intended field as a CNA to me that is time well spent not only learning about myself and what I may be capable of and gaining valuable experience but opening my mint to what all of you here have commented I do not know the possibilities

or anything about all the different routes one can take in nursing I honestly appreciate the comments here this is also a valuable learning experience you all have given me information I could not get anywhere else and given me more food for thought as my user name says I am dedicated to becoming an RN I look at all interaction with medical personal as a potential

learning experience

Thank you all again for taking time to open the mind of a furture RN

Specializes in CVICU.

RN is a nurse. CNA is a nurses' assistant. They are not the same thing…I would work construction before being a CNA.

Like I said I look at All criticism as constructive I respect your view all you have to do is respect mine

I have not said RN and CNA are the same thing I understand that just like a laborer and

heavy equipment operator are not the same thing but they both work on the same team

for the same cause and the operator could not do his job if the laborer didn't do his

as you may have noticed i said for me that i thought it was the best advice i could give from my own experience ,because i get to see first hand what nurses do on a minute by minute basis and how difficult the job actually is. i have much respect for nurses and the nursing profession I do not mean to offend you or anyone else .i will still say being a CNA and working with Nurses every day is a great learning experience for me as i would have not been able to see and do patient care in the real world not the text book world and i still for me being a CNA is the best route on my way to nursing
