I'm interested in knowing how all of you wonderful post partum/ob/l&d nurses got your first job in your specialty, and how long it took you? I would like to hear the stories...please share :)

I worked a year in a major teaching hospital on a gyn-surgical/oncology unit and then applied to a L&D residency program at a mid size hospital and got that. Put a year in there and then moved out of state to a small LDRP critical access hospital accessible only by air or boat. That was great experience because we were the end all be all so you got everything that walked through the door. Life-flight transport was never closer than 4 hours so sometimes it could get pretty exciting with premies.

Graduated in May 2010, applied for all new grad OB jobs within a 2-hour radius...nothing. Got discouraged, didn't take my boards until December 2012. Got my first job a year later at a rehab/ltc facility, worked there for 4 months, then took a camp nurse job in another state. Couldn't get on at any of the hospitals in my new state, So I went back to the rehab/ltc facility for another 5 months. Accepted a med-surg position in the state I had the camp job. Been working in med-surg for 8 months now, and today I was offered a transfer to L&D. :) So it took almost 6 years to get where I wanted, and I'm nervous, but so very excited to have finally landed a spot in OB!

I was offered and accepted a position in OB (it encompasses both L&D and postpartum) prior to graduation.

Me too. I had a job in Labor and Delivery 2 months before graduation.
