So I got my rejection letter today...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi, everyone! I am new to this board. Basically just joined today. I currently attend NSU (Louisiana) and was attempting to get my ADN in nursing. Well today I went out and checked my mail and to my surprised I got a letter saying that I was not getting into clinicals. I was actually quite depressed about the entire thing. My GPA is well over a 3.0 and I was just so surprised that i didn't get in. I believe part of it has to do that they had only so many spaces that could filled. I am just quit depressed over this. My advisor told me that a lot of people drop the ASN Program so there is still a minute chance that I could end up taking someone elses place. I really hope that this happens. I don't think that I should take any more of my core classes over again bc I got A's and B's in them. I actually didn't have a C in any of my main courses. What do you think I should.I am just praying that something happens bc this is soo gonna put me behind. :SIGH::crying2:

Specializes in Orientation hahahaha.

There are many colleges of nursing that will let you in with a 2.0 GPA. What is required of you is to hold a 3.0 to stay in. Then you obviously have to pass your classes. Try another school, thats rediculous.

I know it's really crazy! All my friends were like don't worry you are going to get in, but I try to be a realist. My cumulative GPA is a 3.471. I don't wish anything negative on other people who got in, but I am just praying that some spots become available. I don't know how it is at other schools, but at NSU (Louisiana) people who are in the LPN program basically get an automatic admittance to the program. Maybe this is why space is so frigging limited. This is just really gonna screw everything up for me because I have taken ALL my core classes for our nursing program and basically would be coming back for fall to take random electives, that would basically be wasting my scholarship money, but I really hate to sit out one semester. Here are my grades for all my pre-reqs.

Orientation: A

English 1010 B

Math1020 B

Zool (Anatom) B

Speech (A)

History and Trends in Nursing: A

English 1020: A

Math 1060 A

Human Phys. B

Sociology: B

Fine Arts: A

Dev. Psych: Got a B the first time and took it again and recieved an A.

(Now you see why I am frustrated, lol.)

All I can say is don't give up. I tried applying to schools in my area too and because of the amount applicants versus available seats, I was placed on the waiting list. Frustrated, I tried schools further out, out of state to be exact and was finally accepted!

One of the problems is if the school is centrally located and reasonally priced, the odds of getting in is extremely low. I kinda went to the extreme to a small, rural town where I knew the program was not difficult to get in (no testing, GPA requirement etc.,the town total pop. 2000). They gladly accepted me.

If possible, maybe try looking out of state. It's a sacrifice but it will be worth in the end. Good luck!

I am in Louisiana at MSU and I worry about the same thing. I am afraid that with limited spacing I wont get in. I also am concerned because my GPA is 3.2 although they require a 2.7 to get in.

Hi, Amanda. Actually I am not familiar with MSU. Did you mean to say NSU? If so, then check your mail you should have your letter today. Have you applied already or are you in the process of applying. It's just so very frustrating when you go through school, and then you get a big rejection letter. I wish that LPN's didn't get in automaticaly because it basically takes away positions for those of us who don't already have a nursing license, especially if the nursing program has such limited spaces like NSU. It is all very frustrating. While i know my grades aren't perfect, I feel that they are still pretty good, and I think it would be foolish for me to try to take Human Physiology or Anatomy again to obtain an A. I was thankful when I found out I receieved a B in Human Physiology because it was so very hard at NSU's campus to pass that course, and I am not willing to go back and re-take it to get an A. So right now, I am just hoping that space becomes availible and if not I have to decide if I am gonna go back next semester and waste money on electives, lol. I don't really want to sit out a semester, but at this point I kind of have no choice.

No I did mean MSU-Mcneese State University. I have not applied yet I am actually studying for it right now. I apply in September and I am so scared. They pretty much told me that spaces are so limited its way to hard to get in the ADN because so many people are going that route. If I would be accepted chances are I would be put on the waiting list. If that happens I am switching over to a smaller college to do the LPN and then I will fast track later.

Ahh ok. I know about Mcneese. I think that we have played you guys before during football season. Any who, I wish you the best of luck when it comes to getting into clinical when you do apply. Hopefully you have better luck than me. :)

*hugs* I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't get in! I'm surprised you didn't- based on your grades. The only thing I can think of that may have kept you from getting in would be the TEAS test. Perhaps you can re-take it?

I'll keep my fingers crossed you'll get an acceptance letter in the weeks to come.

Hi there!! i want you to know that you are not alone. i got my rejection letter too. i went in my room and cried my eyes out. I really thought that i was going to get in. but i know that i will get into a program, and i will become a Nurse. am applying to other schools. I pray that they take me .. so dont give up, keep trying. apply to more schools. you have done your best, leave the rest to GOD,and have FAITH.

Don't put all your peas into one pod. Keep your options open and next time apply to more than one school because nothing is garanteed, especially in this economy. I applied to several nursing schools when I first wanted to go for nursing and the closest school didn't accept me as I initially thought I would get accepted for sure, but the others did. So good luck on getting in still, in the mean time take more courses that can be used for later, if that is at all possible.

Happiness10466, please share with me the name of the school in the rural town. Pm me if you want. TIA :-)
