I definitely agree with you on that. Also I have not forgotten about your PM, just still have not acquired enough posts to respond. That particular professor's last name does start with a "C" though. Although I know that does not narrow it down too much, it kind of gives you an idea. As soon as I get enough posts, I'll respond to your PM.

Unfortunately I have not acquired enough of posts to pm users. As I continue to post on this board, hopefully I will be able to pm you the name of this professor. I am sure that if I post her name on this forum that it will more than likely be erased.

opinion about nsu shreveport vs panola in carthage...
Hi there. When I was in clinical I did not have the time to go and talk with the tutors. My reasoning for this is bc I was from Natchitoches and by the time I would finish class in Shreveport, I had to get back home for work. I wish there were some tutors available for the Natchitoches Campus because not all of us are able to stay and meet with tutors at the Shreveport Campus due to other obligations. I am not trying to trash NSU's College of Nursing but the person who created this thread simply asked for an opinion, and I am just sharing how terrible my experience was. I am not basing nor did I ever base my opinion of NSU's College of Nursing on the horror stories I was told prior to entering, although these things did turn out to be true. I can remember distinctly going to my professor for help on quite a few of the tests, but the things she reviewed were NOT even relatively similar to what is actually on the test, so I just stopped going to reviews after a few times because they were not helping. I believe the instructor I went to for NURA 1100 and 1110 would want to help us by giving reviews but the "head" instructor was the one creating the tests, therefore she did not have a lot of input as to what was put on the tests. I can also remember in check offs how the other 3 teachers for clinical would try to help students because we were nervous, and she would say let them do it on their own. She was the most condescending person I have ever met and after clinical lab I could always remember feeling like a complete idiot. Not all of us have prior medical experience and when they rush through certain applications most people are not going to pick up the "correct" technique after watching a Potter and Perry video once.

Well, all I can is from MY experience and on how many students that I KNOW had to repeat the course that the school is one I would steer clear from. Yes, you are correct about the beginning dosage calcs, however once you get passed the BASICS the problems require alot more than just basic knowledge, and for those of us who don't know much about IV drips, reconstitution, etc, using workbooks as a guide and not getting help from teacher until you've FAILED is not sufficient. I distinctly remember our prof. not going over that material until after the majority of the d*mn class is failing the quizzes and the test averages are barely passing. Your friend may be correct on 5 dropping AFTER they have been in the hospital but a great load of them left before that. I also can recall that MOST people in the class were not passing the tests. You had a few who got in their nineties etc, but most of the kids I knew were not anywhere near that range, and I KNOW one of the guys who would make nineties was a person who had to repeat this course. Personally I don't have time to continue to get loans and repeat the first level 2 and 3 times to pass. Some of the kids right now who are doing ok in 1100 have to at least a 90 to pass the entire course. I am glad you did well at NSU but I am not the only person who has complaints about this school and their so called "methods" of teaching. I highly advise any students interested to go to Southern or Panola college. They are way more flexible when it comes to your schedule and will actually try to HELP you pass instead of failing of you.

I am in no way trying to knock anyone's opinion of NSU but from me doing my first level of clinical there, it was absolutely horrible! The instructors at this institution do not try to help you in any way shape or form. I have always been a very good student and I know nursing is completely different from other curriculum, but no matter how much effort I put into it, I could not manage to pass one single test. I ended up having to withdraw early in March and I found out recently that the MAJORITY of the class has dropped as well. I talked to a girl a few days ago and although she managed to make it to the hospital she will end up having to withdraw bc she cannot pass the other course for the ADN program. I even found out from talking to former classmates that for quite a few of them this was there 2nd time taking NURA 1100 and NURA 1110. There is even a girl in there for her 3rd attempt! I've also been told by several sources that the College of Nursing is under investigation because the program is not producing a lot of graduates. If anyone has the gas money to go to Panola, I would certainly invest in it because NSU's nursing program is absolutely horrible. Another thing I'd like to mention is that if you are an ADN student, they will do everything in their power to get you to do the BSN program or pretend that they do not know much about ADN Curriculum when it comes to advising. A very close friend of mine has to stay at the college longer for pre-reqs bc an adviser recklessly put her into the wrong classes. Now, she is stuck taking Englishes and other pre-reqs again. So, all in all I would say to either try Southern or Panola because the NSU College of Nursing is filled with a bunch of instructors who could care less if you pass or fail and do not even teach! In fact, during clinical, I fondly recall having to learn dosage calcs. by myself bc there was not enough "time" to cover it. So, we would not really understand how to do the problems until after they quiz you and you fail it, which is not helpful. All in all stay the h*ll away from NSU's College of Nursing, unless you enjoy being out of thousands of dollars!

Question about NSU Nursing in Shreveport for ADN Program?
I recently got into clinical and have been there for about 3 wks. So far everything has been good but I was super bummed when i got my first test back and made a 67. I studied really hard and still managed not to pass. I am in no way blaming my instructors for this grade BUT I am curious to know which instructors are sincerely there for the students. I don't know if we are being properly taught but it seems to me that in our class NURA 1100 and NURA 1110 we really are not being taught very much. We kind of just zoom right through everything. I have learned thus far that you pretty much have to study the material yourself because the instructors from the ADN program really don't teach per se. They seem as if they are extremely down to earth people but they don't really teach the students. This is very frustrating to me because I live in Natchitoches and for what they "teach" us in lecture, one can get the same instruction by doing the distance learning for the lecture. It would really save me from having to go to Shreveport 2 days out of the week. Any who, my question is what is your opinion of (1st level) at NSU Shreveport College of Nursing?

So I got my rejection letter today...
I came from Natchitoches to take the test. On that day me and a couple of friend car pooled together. We probably were in the same class, hahaha. So there is actually a clinical in Natchitoches? I didn't know that. I have heard that they do teach some ADN courses however it was only for those who had their LPN license and were transitioning.

Thanks so much Tankgrrl. Perhaps it was my Teas. I didn't do extremely well on it, however I was under the impression that it counts as only 30% of the criteria which determines if you get in or not. Do you know where we can possible retake the test at? One reason I didn't do so good on the test is because it was on a computer. I know that sounds weird but I would have preferred a paper test. Initially we were scheduled to take the test on NSU's campus, however something came up and everyone was forced to go to Leesville and take it on the computer. Maybe I will retake the test as means to increase my chances of getting in next semester. However i do not think I am will retake any of my courses because to me it's a gamble going back and trying to pull an A in Human Phys. or Anatomy. hahaha. I think I will keep my B's for those classes. Like everyone here said I should not have just applied to NSU. At one point I was considering Louisiana Tech, but I would have had to take 2 more course in order to qualify for their clinical.

Ahh ok. I know about Mcneese. I think that we have played you guys before during football season. Any who, I wish you the best of luck when it comes to getting into clinical when you do apply. Hopefully you have better luck than me. :)

Hi, Amanda. Actually I am not familiar with MSU. Did you mean to say NSU? If so, then check your mail you should have your letter today. Have you applied already or are you in the process of applying. It's just so very frustrating when you go through school, and then you get a big rejection letter. I wish that LPN's didn't get in automaticaly because it basically takes away positions for those of us who don't already have a nursing license, especially if the nursing program has such limited spaces like NSU. It is all very frustrating. While i know my grades aren't perfect, I feel that they are still pretty good, and I think it would be foolish for me to try to take Human Physiology or Anatomy again to obtain an A. I was thankful when I found out I receieved a B in Human Physiology because it was so very hard at NSU's campus to pass that course, and I am not willing to go back and re-take it to get an A. So right now, I am just hoping that space becomes availible and if not I have to decide if I am gonna go back next semester and waste money on electives, lol. I don't really want to sit out a semester, but at this point I kind of have no choice.

I don't understand why I didn't get in. My friend and I both had really good cumulative GPA's. My advisor told me that it is possible for people to drop out so just bc we received a rejection letter doesn't mean that we won't be able to get in. My friend had a cumulative of a 3.5 and mine was a 3.4. I passed all my courses the first time around as well. So i don't know what the deal was. Then again I applied for the ASN program and not the BSN. I've heard here that people who already have an LPN license automatically get into clinical for the ASN program, so I am assuming that space played a role in that. But congrats to everyone who suceeded in getting accepted into the nursing program!

I know it's really crazy! All my friends were like don't worry you are going to get in, but I try to be a realist. My cumulative GPA is a 3.471. I don't wish anything negative on other people who got in, but I am just praying that some spots become available. I don't know how it is at other schools, but at NSU (Louisiana) people who are in the LPN program basically get an automatic admittance to the program. Maybe this is why space is so frigging limited. This is just really gonna screw everything up for me because I have taken ALL my core classes for our nursing program and basically would be coming back for fall to take random electives, that would basically be wasting my scholarship money, but I really hate to sit out one semester. Here are my grades for all my pre-reqs. Orientation: A English 1010 B Math1020 B Zool (Anatom) B Speech (A) History and Trends in Nursing: A English 1020: A Math 1060 A Human Phys. B Sociology: B Fine Arts: A Dev. Psych: Got a B the first time and took it again and recieved an A. (Now you see why I am frustrated, lol.)

So I got my rejection letter today...
Hi, everyone! I am new to this board. Basically just joined today. I currently attend NSU (Louisiana) and was attempting to get my ADN in nursing. Well today I went out and checked my mail and to my surprised I got a letter saying that I was not getting into clinicals. I was actually quite depressed about the entire thing. My GPA is well over a 3.0 and I was just so surprised that i didn't get in. I believe part of it has to do that they had only so many spaces that could filled. I am just quit depressed over this. My advisor told me that a lot of people drop the ASN Program so there is still a minute chance that I could end up taking someone elses place. I really hope that this happens. I don't think that I should take any more of my core classes over again bc I got A's and B's in them. I actually didn't have a C in any of my main courses. What do you think I should.I am just praying that something happens bc this is soo gonna put me behind. :SIGH:
