hesi study books... worth the $?
yeah. i pretty much know the stuff. i did very well in my english and maths, and also in anatomy. i am taking physiology this semester and microbiology, and chemistry in the fall. but i am the type person who likes to have something to review. especially in the math area since its been two years since i have taken my last math class. i am planning to talk to an advisor, but since the school is an hour away, i will have to plan for that trip. :) maybe she can tell me if the books are helpful. thanks for your input! most appreciated!

hesi study books... worth the $?
probably. i do have to take the nclex later down the line. but the hesi a2 is supposed to be on anatomy physiology, chemistry and biology, oh and math and reading/english. it tests your competency in these areas to see if you are ready for the nursing program. sorry if i caused any confusion... :)

hesi study books... worth the $?
thanks! i appreciate the info. The school i will be going to requires the hesi a2 as a prerequisite to get into the nursing program. i just want to be prepared so i have better chances of getting into the nursing program. i found one on amazon. its only 25 bucks. figure if i start now, i may be ready by fall! :) LOL thanks again! happy new year!

hesi study books... worth the $?
I have seen the HESI study books in barnes and noble and on amazon. Has anyone ever used one, and if so, was it worth the money? Do you feel like it helped you prepare for the test? If so, please share (if its not too much trouble) which one you used! :) thanks in advance!

to wantaccelbsn: you go gurl. just like ive said a previous post. keep the positive attitude about your choice to change to nursing. stay realistic (since we are all naive daydreamers waiting to get the chance to have a cushy job like nursing LOL) but let the positives outweigh the negative. as for me, i choose to IGNORE the negative attitudes about the profession. I know some people get lost on these forums and click on the wrong thread. i am just going to pretend that thats what happened. unless i see a post that explains why they chose to stay in nursing being that its so HORRIBLE. where does this person find their motivation to do the job in a caring manner, when they seem so angry about the day to day bs that nurses have to put up with. NOT SAYING THEY ARE A BAD NURSE-let me just get that out there now. just saying i dont like my job due to day to day bs too. but thats my motivation to change careers, and i also dont find myself doing my job to the best of my ability (which i am a d*** good banker) because i feel that way. but here's a news flash to those who chose to argue that they are right, and we are all wrong (which i think we should just agree to disagree and get back to the light hearted topic at hand)-every career has its ups and downs: budgets that keep you from doing your job, unappreciative bosses, customers, patients, etc) long work hours, and not enough pay for what you do. and aches. be it headaches or back aches. we all have them from rdh's to nurses, to lenders, and lawyers. nurses arent the only ones. Again, Good luck to everyone and i look forward to hearing more about the jobs-maybe someone has a funny/odd one they'd like to share. I am going to go and read more threads that nurses have posted on their thoughts about their careers. i hope EVERYONE had a great holiday yesterday and has a wonderful new year. i say everyone because although i disagree with a specific individual on here, that doesnt mean i want to ignore the fact that they are a person too. and (like i said) i hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season. take that how you want to, cause i know how i meant it...

yeah realist. so am i. just cause i choose not to take a negative attitude, doesnt mean im not realistic. if you like your job, dont just share the negatives, though they are respected. share the positives. this isnt a "vent about your job" post and all your posts seem to do just that. again, we all know that the job has crappy times just as the good ones. but as incoming students who are nervous as hell, this is supposed to be just a light hearted conversation about why we have chosen to make this career change. I completely understand wanting us to know the "real, raw" side of nursing. but also share the positives. no doubt that you arent a "good" nurse, but you just sound so bitter about it. thats all i was saying. and, some people, if they are bitter about their job, they dont give their 110% at it. if you have anything positive to say about nursing, please do share. i clicked on your link that shows actual nurses sharing their feelings on their job. even they can find some positives to go along with the negative bs they have to deal with day to day. thanks for the well wishes, and i wish you well in your continued career.

Okay, I am back for another post. here's the deal. I have been following up and reading about the different jobs and "why they suck". but some posts are getting on my nerves. I respect that nursing isnt a Sunshine and Roses kind of job. Not a major cake walk. i have met so many nurses and are friends with a few and they all say the same thing. It's not easy, you dont go in it for the money, and there is so much bs you have to put up with-not to mention the hours on your feet, and the aches and pains, and the lack of appreciation from patients. but if you still find it appealing, then maybe its for you. We all here understand that and are not arguing that our jobs are worse than nursing. They just aren't what we want. We will never know if it is for us unless we get in there and try. But please stop trying to talk us out of it before we ever get into it. If you dont like it, and the pay sucks that bad, get out of it, cause i wouldnt want you caring for my family if you are that bitter about your job. And sometimes people (even nurses need to vent) but this is the wrong thread for it. Although we are aware of the negatives about the job, if you are going to do something, you should have a POSITIVE attitude going in. not going in with wool over your eyes, but a positive attitude. i have learned that from experience. so, while i (speaking for myself) appreciate the realistic input, share something positive that you do like about the job, or go find another thread to vent on.:icon_rolleyes: for those fellow students out there (or perspective students) keep on truckin with a huge smile on your face. and keep the attitudes positive-though do know there are downs to every job. not just the ones we have. and to ALL of you (even the negative one) i hope you all have a merry christmas, happy hannukah or whatever you may choose celebrate, and a happy new year. (as for me its "merry christmas"... :) )LOL

opinion about nsu shreveport vs panola in carthage...
I am in the process of trying to make my final decision between Panola College and Northwestern State University in Shreveport. Panola has their online/flex option (clinicals at night and on weekend and classes can be taken online) which is great and they do clinicals here in shreveport also, but it is a long way for me to drive if i want to take some classes there. And I have heard that its not as bad to get into clinicals there as it is Northwestern (from an actual advisor at Panola) due to the waiting lists. On the flip side, I have considered Northwestern because it is local, and if i need to speak with an advisor face to face, I can. But I have also had an advisor there tell me getting into clinicals there is VERY competitive. And, i have heard a ton of horror stories about NSU Right now, my over all gpa is 2.9 (but thats including my business classes, as i have recently changed my major). If they just look at the classes that will be applied to the adn progam, it would probably look even better. So if anyone out there has had experience with either one of these or both, please let me know what you think. Thanks!

surviving nursing school financially...
Okay, so I am worrying about my personal finances during clinicals a little bit early in the game, as I have just recently (like August 07) changed my major from Business Admin. to ADN. Anyone have advice on how to pay bills while in Nursing School (you know, student loans, grants, etc?) I guess I could quit the bank and work part-time somewhere on the weekends or evenings... Any advice would be great-but please don't divulge too much personal info! I just mainly wonder how so many people do it-it seems almost as if you have to quit work to go to Nursing School. Thanks in advance!

Share why your current job sucks and what you hope will be different in nursing!
I am a banker. I work as a r/e loan processor and closing coordinator. I love the people I work with. (I hope to find good relationships such as this when I get into the nursing field). The job itself makes me want to slam my head into my desk everyday I have to be here. Banking is easy, but its not for me. I feel the only reason I am still here doing this is because it is all I know-like my security blanket. As a banker, you can help people, but thats all based on how much money they make, how much they have in assets, etc. As a nurse, you can help people no matter how much money they make or have in the bank. I have always preferred an active job vs. a job behind a desk. I hope to loose a few unwanted pounds by having a job on my feet ! I know how you feel having to deal with "stupid" people because after almost 8 years in the banking industry, I promise you I have seen my fair share. Granted, there are more customers that you just love to see and talk to that make your day, but there are some that can ruin it just as fast. And the thought of having to deal with title companies every day for the rest of my life makes me want to hurl... LOL Thanks for the opportunity to remind myself exactly why I have chosen the Nursing route and to share it with others!

Needing advice for A&P I!!!
Where I am, we take Anatomy and Physiology separate. I just completed Anatomy for the second time. First time was 7 years ago and I did HORRIBLE! Second time, I made it out with a B. Difference was, 7 years ago, I was preoccupied with my boyfriend, and other stuff, that I didn't focus on my homework and studying... The class isn't "hard", but there is ALOT to remember. You have to study everyday. not just the day before the test... If I would have really applied myself this last semester, I would have made an A! So now its on to Physiology for me! Good luck!
