So I got my rejection letter today...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi, everyone! I am new to this board. Basically just joined today. I currently attend NSU (Louisiana) and was attempting to get my ADN in nursing. Well today I went out and checked my mail and to my surprised I got a letter saying that I was not getting into clinicals. I was actually quite depressed about the entire thing. My GPA is well over a 3.0 and I was just so surprised that i didn't get in. I believe part of it has to do that they had only so many spaces that could filled. I am just quit depressed over this. My advisor told me that a lot of people drop the ASN Program so there is still a minute chance that I could end up taking someone elses place. I really hope that this happens. I don't think that I should take any more of my core classes over again bc I got A's and B's in them. I actually didn't have a C in any of my main courses. What do you think I should.I am just praying that something happens bc this is soo gonna put me behind. :SIGH::crying2:

*hugs* I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't get in! I'm surprised you didn't- based on your grades. The only thing I can think of that may have kept you from getting in would be the TEAS test. Perhaps you can re-take it?

I'll keep my fingers crossed you'll get an acceptance letter in the weeks to come.

Thanks so much Tankgrrl. Perhaps it was my Teas. I didn't do extremely well on it, however I was under the impression that it counts as only 30% of the criteria which determines if you get in or not. Do you know where we can possible retake the test at? One reason I didn't do so good on the test is because it was on a computer. I know that sounds weird but I would have preferred a paper test. Initially we were scheduled to take the test on NSU's campus, however something came up and everyone was forced to go to Leesville and take it on the computer. Maybe I will retake the test as means to increase my chances of getting in next semester. However i do not think I am will retake any of my courses because to me it's a gamble going back and trying to pull an A in Human Phys. or Anatomy. hahaha. I think I will keep my B's for those classes. Like everyone here said I should not have just applied to NSU. At one point I was considering Louisiana Tech, but I would have had to take 2 more course in order to qualify for their clinical.

Did you have to come down from Shreveport or Nachitoches? Wow-I'm surprised they had you take it all the way over here-since it's all computerized. Who knows- we may have been taking the teas at the same time :wink2:

Which campus did you apply for? I'm thinking Shreveport and Nachitoches probably have more slots than Leesville does (there's only 20 here)- which should up your chances of getting in if someone has to drop out of the program.

Either way- I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!!

I came from Natchitoches to take the test. On that day me and a couple of friend car pooled together. We probably were in the same class, hahaha. So there is actually a clinical in Natchitoches? I didn't know that. I have heard that they do teach some ADN courses however it was only for those who had their LPN license and were transitioning.

Carla,

I am sorry to hear you did not get accepted. I also applied for the fall and was denied. Everyone kept telling me the same thing don't worry you will get in. I landed right in the middle of the previous admitting classes scores. I have a GPA of 3.62. Well the fall class accepts 48 people. We had over 400 people apply. 40 of the seats were taken with people with gpa's of 4.0 and the lowest accepted persons gpa was a 3.85. The next 24 were wait listed. I did not even make the wait list. The drastic change is because of the economy and the news agencies reporting that the nursing field is the only field not affected by economy, so everyone laid off and can't find a job is running back to school to become a nurse. This makes it even more competitive then before. Don't get depressed, keep your chin up and reevaluate your situation. Maybe you need to apply to an LPN program and bridge or look at different schools like a previous poster stated. Do not despair you will get there, it just may not be in the time frame you wanted it to happen in. For the Spring classes, I am appling to 3 RN schools and 3 LPN schools. I will finish my corequesite courses this fall and have nothing to do but take nursing classes. You can do it, just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and plow through and the rewards will be that much sweeter when you do get you RN. I hope this helps and good luck to you.

Dan

I'm so sorry. If I read correctly, you said that if you have your LPN that you have automatic acceptance into that program? If that is the case, do you have the option of trying to get your LPN first? Maybe you could keep applying to RN programs but in the meantime work on getting your LPN so that you are still working towards your goal of nursing. (This is my plan if I am not able to get into a program, I am just starting to apply to programs now.)

Good luck :)
