So, should I BSN to MSN?

Published

Hey all! I will finally be buckling down in the spring and getting my BSN! Here's the thing though. I've considered being a NP. It's been a dream of mine for a little now, but I also am just ready to be done with school for good. I'm really confused. I would like to finish school and set a wedding date and start a family...that would be ideal anyway. And the idea of doing this with school (getting my MSN) just doesn't seem appealing. But on the other note, it has been a dream of mine. Idk...I seem scatter brains, I know. Advice please? That is, if you manage to sort through the contents of my brain.

I would not recommend going into an NP program unless it's something you know you REALLY want to do, because it will take a huge time and energy (and financial) commitment.

You don't have to decide right now. NP programs will always be there. I'm assuming by what you wrote that you're in your mid-late 20s? You have oodles of time.

Yeah, those were my thoughts on it too. Thank you for the advice

The word "dream" is a very imprecise word. Dream can mean goal. Goals usually involve a plan of action.

Dream can also mean fantasy. Something to dream about that would be nice, but no plans are in place.

I think you will find clarity in your future once you graduate, get a job as a nurse, work for a while. When life settles down after the wedding and having worked as a nurse you will be in a better position to make a decision.

I have graduated. I have my ADN. And I have a job as a nurse, and have worked. I'm just now required to get my BSN at the hospital I work in. But I agree. I think I will wait after we get married to see where I stand.
