I am currently a Med Surgical nurse in one of the health system Hospitals. I have one year experience under my belt. Graduated with a BSN in 2012. I applied last week to NYP and I already had an interview on the phone with a recruiter today. I took the Nurse Battery test as well. weird behavioral questions by the way! She offered me a position in Medical Step down @ NYP Columbia University. I have to meet with the Nurse manager next week. Is this process too fast? anyways, has anyone out there been thru this process with NYP? any advice, insights? I am excited, but a little nervous especially about the commute. Is Medical step-down like another Medsurg? or is it more like a specialized area. Never heard of it.
Thanks ALOT!
Hey guys! congrats on all the new job landings lately! it sounds like things are starting to look better than when i made the decision to leave about a year and a half ago.
for those of you who left the city, found good med/surg work elsewhere and are now looking to move back to the city (or other city) how have you been minding the prospects?
Right now i have just over one year of excellent Med/Surg step-down unit experience at the Cleveland Clinic, working with heart and lung transplants. The clinics heart hospital is rated #1 in the nation for 19 years straight. i have been so lucky to gain this experience and i am hoping it will open more doors when i start looking in NYC again.
My plan is to stay here for another year so i will have a solid 2 years with them, while also finishing up my BSN. Then i plan to start looking to get hired in nyc again and/or try out travel nursing.
So my questions are, what do you think my chances are of getting a job back in NYC after i finish my 2 years at the Cleveland Clinic?
Also, what are the current salaries and going rates for the NYC hospitals these days? I know there used to be a long help full thread on here with all the salaries but the thread has been closed for a long time.
any insight helps!!

I think you chances are excellent. But the Cleveland Clinic is also super excellent !!!! Why would you want to leave ? You salary here is going to be in the 90's but the cost of living is crazy !!!!! I would love to leave NY one day , but my husband loves it here ! What hospital in NYC are you particularly interested in ?
I took their battery test the day after I applied for 5 positions. Only 3 of those applications passed the online screening process and actually ended up as 'applied' ... I have since received 2 emails stating that 2 of those 3 positions are now closed. So 1 application right now waits in the wings ...
Same thing here Paco....just a waiting game

I was called the same evening for an offer, but was not officially emailed an offer until 1 week later. Most of my communication throughout the process took 1-2 weeks between each step.
