So how does it feel like to be a male nurse

Published

So i just started my college one week ago. Even though I already picked my major( Health science which i dont know exactly what that does), i started thinking about switching my major to nurse which i've thought about since this May.

I am a guy in my 18 and I am wondering how it feels to be a male nurse(I think it might seem awkward for those none-male nurse but i think it will be cool) and do we do anything different than regular female nurse. I mean it would be awkward if we have to take care of a female patient.

and I would also like to have some advice as a male nurse.

Males in nursing school are not treated any different then female classmates. I never had an issue in any of my clinicals. I have had an older female say that she wanted a female to help her on the bedside commode. Which is no big deal, I just got one of my classmates.

As soon as I started my program I had an increase in adipose cells around my upper left and right quadrants and my male genitalia disappeared and was replaced by female genitalia... I guess it was my body's way of self preservation so I could take care of females without feeling silly... Thank god for negative feedback right?!

A horn has begun to grow from my forehead. I fear it will only grow larger as I progress through my career.

Sjalv.... Are you the one??? I knew it wasn't Neo!!! The matrix is all lies...

With the massive surge of men in nursing I get treated no different than the other classmates. They are actually really welcoming of men in the field! So don't worry about it! Your nursing classmates are much more understanding and accepting than the general public.

How do male nurses feel? With our fingers, mostly. If you're in a college atmosphere it's probably a great way to pick up chicks. It's not awkward unless you make it that way. You have to walk into the room and tell patients "I'm your nurse" with a gentle edge of finality. Most women actually treat me like I'm a doctor.

still a nursing student, but its not that bad actually, yeah at times you get picked on by the instructors and females in the class but just don't take it the wrong way they just like having fun with you. in clinical everyone is supportive never had trouble about anything as long as you were organized and up to date with what you are doing. in society since a lot of males are joining nursing they don't mind, but you do get those occasional teasing and stuff people just aren't aware of what you actually do. also you get the question occasionally of why didn't you become a doctor or are you going to med school after. Overall its a good field with lots to learn and different things to change over in the field, plus you work with a lot of women why not, just control yourself its hard but doable.

It feels like fighting a bear and beating him.

i m an actual working nurse.. been in hospitals and nursing homes.. if you aer 18.. Please research all of you career choices and do not pick nursing as one. You are young, you can choose a much more rewarding, better paying career. Research nursing , it is flooded at the gaits and u are very unlikely to get a position anywhere that wouldnt require you to whipe ass as nursing home that only wants u to flaut ur badge and not even work to 1/10th ur scope of practice.. Dont listen to the people who say "nursing is a good career" , that was over 10 years ago and insureance companies/hospitals are pushing the agenda to keep our wage down..

I'm a male nurse too and I feel no different from other female nurses. But being one has extra advantages too like having the muscle to lift stuff and such.
