So confused

Okay, this is gonna be a long one. Im an LPN of almost two years now and I work in a LTC facility. At first I was PRN, until something became available. I went to my DON and told her I would like a full time position that was supposed to be opening up. Well, Im off for the next 3 days. I come back and everyone tells me she filled the position. So I go and "remind" her that she said I could have the position. She says Oh I know honey were giving it to you. So I go tell my scheduler who then calls her and she says boy Ive got myself in a rift. Fast forward 1 week. I notice this nurse orientating for full time days. NO POSITION AVAILABLE. Everyone is wondering, whos getting fired?? Well to say the least Ive never been wrote up at this job until this week. The first write up, for not addressing critical labs. NEVER. I would never do that. So being inspector gadget, I figure out the fax machine time stamp is off. Phhhheeewww. So I thought. I go in yesterday and she pulls me in the office and says Im fired for a med error. WHAT?? So I guess last week when one of my residents came back from the hospital, I overlooked a dose change on coreg and she received the wrong dose 1 time on night shift. It was caught the next day. I completely take responsibility for the med error. She wasnt gone long enough to be a readmit and as stupid as it sounds, I didnt know I had to go back over the meds. I thought they stayed the same as they were 2 days earlier. LESSON LEARNED. So, she fires me and of course (being a pisces) I start crying. Well she takes it back and tells me she needs time to think. I go in today and she gives me this "list" of the craziest things that I have to do before one month is up. The whole time shes saying " lawsuit this, med error that" Mind you this is a DON who just 2 days earlier LOST 26 percocet. Yeah. I just dont know if shes trying to get me to quit or what. But Im not going anywhere. Sorry to babble, All opinions welcome to those who sat through it :)

Honestly, they are playing some low down typical toxic work environment games on you. Get out as fast as you can. It is not worth staying at a toxic environment for all of this and it sounds like they are looking for reasons to terminate you. Quit and just move on to something else that is more safe and supportive...you never know what they may try to do...

Yes...something else could be going on, but...I've been in LTC long enough to know that sometimes things like this can happen. Heck...anything and everything that doesn't make sence in the "real" world happens in LTC.

I see where the OP might want to stay or really loves the job, but I have to echo the get away from this place suggestions.

Whats going on is she messed up and hired another nurse forgetting she gave me the job. She had to give me the full time spot and now she has to find somewhere to put the other nurse. Shes to proud to admit she messed up so somebody is just gonna get fired. 1st med error of my career. Believe it or not, comment or not. Ive seen DONs do some messed up things just to avoid admitting guilt. Ive only been a nurse for 2 years but Ive been around it since I was born. Im ready to go to the hospitals :)

What kind of nursing director "forgets" they gave a job to someone?? I'd be looking elsewhere for sure!
