An acquaintance of mine wants some medical advice, and I"m not sure what to tell her. She takes 5 mg of Pristiq, an SNRI, for chronic depression. She can't take SSRIs because she had bad reactions to them. She wants to get pregnant, but she's worried about the impact of Pristiq on fetuses. She says she can't find much research on them during pregnancy. She's afraid going off it for 9 months will really be bad for her, but she'd be devastated if she harmed her baby with it. What would you tell her? Are there any SNRIs that might be safer than Pristiq? Thanks!

unfortunately we are not allowed to give medical advise here! Good luck to your friend, it seems like she needs to see her health care provider.

I would tell her that she needs to discuss those concerns with the healthcare provider who is prescribing the medication for her.

No healthcare advice here, but she must discuss these things preconception with her PCP and OBGYN. Risk/benefits are somewhat unique to the individual.

She definitely needs to be followed by her Health Care Providers. We wish her well.
