Yes, just in the last few weeks. I haven't personally see any in the surgery dept, but Family Practice and Internal Medicine are starting to see a few cases. Scary thing is some of these folks had the flu shot, so this is apparently a different strain.

I'm not sure that mine has actually been influenza ... but for the past 10 days, I have had one of the worst respiratory virus's in my life. The degree of congestion and fever have been only "bad," not "terrible" ... but only twice in my life have I had anything take the energy away from me so much. I've taken off several days of work and taken it easy ... but I don't seem to make that final step toward recovery.

I am 49 years old and have had my share of respiratory virus. Believe me, this is one of the worst. Believe it when your patients and colleagues say they can't function with it. They are not kidding.

Take care everyone,

we have also seen two cases of fllu in two people who had the flu shot..

on the optimistic side .it is the younger basically healthy ones coming down with flu

at least they are less likely to die from influenza

although they may at times feel like it ...... :crying2:

I am saying a prayer that I stay healthy the next few weeks and the BAD BUGS fly out !!

We had 68 cases of suspected flu in the ER this weekend. I don't know how many were actually confirmed. We got 2 admissions on the floor of confirmed influenza. One patient 94 years old. Several of the Tennessee county school systems are closed due to the flu.

This is the second year in a row that I've gotten the flu despite having received the flu shot. Both times I've been slapped flat, and both times I've ended up with secondary infections. Nor am I the only one; I've had several doctors tell me recently they've never seen so many people get sick like this after having been immunized. The influenza viruses must be mutating and/or growing stronger.......and if that's the case, I think we may be in some real trouble down the line, just as we are today with bacterial infections that have become resistant to antibiotics. I'm still relatively young and healthy, but the past two winters I've come down with flu that's made me sicker than I've ever been in my life, and for longer than I've ever been; what about the very young, the old, and the not-so-healthy?

Anybody ever read Stephen King's The Stand? Yes, the story is fictional, but it's entirely possible that a particularly virulent strain of flu (called Captain Trips in the book) could develop at some point in the future (that is, if it hasn't already been cooked up in some top-secret government lab somewhere). And someday it could even overwhelm our defenses, wiping out literally tens or even hundreds of millions. That's scary. I'm not an expert in epidemiology, but even I can imagine what would happen in such an event........it'd make the tsunami in Indonesia look like a car accident. :uhoh21: :sofahider

We saw alot of type A in Jan and Feb, now type B is popping up. The head of the hospital lab actually came out to the clinics and snatched up our boxes of tests because the hospital ran out! It's been rampant here in Wisconsin.
