SJSU Fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Everyone!

While I was wandering through the school section of allnurses, I was surprised to discover that a thread for the Fall 2017 program has yet to be posted. Well, there is only one way to remedy this sad situation. We gotta get this thing rollin'

I thought it might be fun to get to know each other a bit, seeing as we could have some classes together in September. We could also offer encouragement through the long and arduous wait for our acceptance letters. In addition to those things, a few people (myself included) might be interested to see how the applicant pool is going to treat us this time around.

I'm 10% nervous and 90% excited. Wait! Is it the other way around? Gah!

Big 5 GPA- 3.85

TEAS - 93.3%

Impaction Score- 6.96

Good luck! We got this!

Not really. I would take it easy, it may be the last time you'll be rest for a while lol I'm not sure if you guys have received your book list yet or not, but if you haven't there really isn't much you can do. You could start reviewing drugs for pharmacology because there are alot of things to memorize but you will be okay if you dont, honestly. I didn't study anything before my first semester and I turned out just fine! Haha I will say that it could be beneficial to brush up on your physiology, just to make Pathophysiology a little bit easier. Again, I didn't do this is and it was fine. But I did struggle mostly with Patho this semester, maybe reviewing my physio would have helped but I can't say forsure.

Alrighty! Yeah, we did not get a book list yet!

I actually think you wont be getting your book list until your New Student Workshop. Since you guys have this whole summer before you start, I forget that you guys may not be getting through things as fast as my cohort had to since we started this spring. Have you received date of when your workshop is?

Yes, it is on August 21! And that is true, they said they would email us more details later on. Also, did you do blood titers for the pre-entrance requirements? Some papers we got and the powerpoint that was sent says to show proof of 2 vaccinations or blood titers, but in some areas it says to do titers so it's kind of confusing.

Just get titers for everything. Of course if you have not gotten a vaccine for something then definitely get that done. I had gotten all my vaccines when I was younger but I ended up with a negative titer for Hepatitis B. Had I not gotten the titer done I would have never known that I did not have immunity. Even though it may be easier to just upload your vaccine records, just get the titers. It really is for YOUR OWN safety! Just because you've had the vaccine does NOT mean you have the antibodies/immunity.

Hi rnlab! You are amazing! Thanks so much for hanging out with us newbies. Would you be willing to tell us a little bit about your first semester? How was skills lab? Were any of the classes easier or harder than you expected? Are there any opportunities to get involved on campus? I'm a transfer student, so any info you want to share would be awesome! Thanks for reaching out :) I know that there are tough times ahead. But honestly, I'm so excited to finally get started!

Yes! Beatrix.P, rnlab, I'd really like to know about any opportunities to get involved on campus too. Clubs? Groups? Activities? I'd really like to get to know people and keep busy!

Has anyone taken the CPR class yet? I'm a little confused on which class it is. Is it just the Basic Life Support class from either American Red Cross or American Heart Association?

I took BLS for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association. It's a little more involved than the BLS class that is aimed towards community members. I have taken both classes in the past, and BLS for Healthcare Providers teaches you about how to provide BLS in a medical/hospital setting as well as out in the community. Hope this helps :)

I am looking up the classes for AHA and I only see "BLS Provider" classes. I am assuming it is the one for healthcare providers?

Yes, that sounds right. My booklet for the class says "BLS Provider Manual" on the front.

For any sjsu fall 2017 'cohortees' reading this thread, one of the girls in our cohort started a Facebook group - she sent out the invites to the emails Malloy sent out in the booklist email. So if you haven't checked that email yet, now you know! About half of us accepted the invite so far, so I thought I'd spread the word. :)
