I am taking fundamentals of chemistry and I am failing! This is soo off topic but what are "sig figs" and how do you do daltons law (i think the mixture one) mathmatical problems, i am so lost:confused:. I just need some words of encouragement. Some sucess stories would be nice. Thanks to everyone. Sorry, this is not a good first impression but in all im sooo excitied to be a member of allnurses:yeah:

Sig Figs stands for significant figures, I just started Organic Chem last week, and this is one of the first things we learned about. It is a little confusing at first but once you get it, you will be fine.
Try this site: http://www.fordhamprep.org/gcurran/sho/sho/lessons/lessindex.htm
I saw Dalton's Law in Chapter 7 we have not gone over that yet... There is info on Sig Figs there as well, my Chem Professor actually pulls this site up often during our class to aid in her instruction. :)
PS... I have 5 kids and have a full load of classes, one of my children is special needs, one is just needy, and I am ADD... If I can do it anyone can do it!

Keep your head up bro. You have to crawl through the weeds to get to the flowers. My parents left Cali once i turned 18 and I've been living on my own. I'm 27 now and I've been applying to RN schools (among others) for the past year. It's been a struggle and its not over yet. Just know that you are not only going to school to further your education, but also to provide for your little one and to give him/her the best chance at a good life as you can. Don't go down man, and if you do, go down swinging! Good luck to you.

Chemistry overwhelmed me and I consider myself to be an over-achiever. I was sinking in Chem and felt very discouraged. My professor was horrible. When I went to her for help and explained my anxiety, she suggested I see a "professional" for my "issues". Gee thanks, lady.
I was determined not to give up! I learned that our campus offered tutoring, so I went every week and asked tons of questions. It was tough to balance out my schedule (with 2 kids under the age of 5 and a hubby who works a bazillion hours a week) But, I did it. Don't know how....but I managed to take it a week at a time and passed the final with a B. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I would look into getting a tutor for Chemistry. Also the most important of all,is to get a babysitter/daycare schedule set for your child so you can have uninterupted study time.

Dalton's law of partial pressure states that the total pressure is equal to the sum of the pressure of the individual gases. So if Gas 1 exerts a pressure of 80 mmhg, Gas 2 exerts 70 mmgh, and Gas 3 exerts a pressure of 10 mmhg, the total pressure would be 160 mmhg. Pressure Total = Pressure Gas 1 + Pressure Gas 2....it's hard to explain sig figs, but your book should have a good section on it.

Sweetie, as a young mother myself, I KNOW its hard. There have been many, many sleepless nights for me, worrying about bills, school, work, everything. In the end, you just have to do the best you can and let God guide u thru the rest. Last semester I worked two part times and carried 18 credit hours, I also have a one year old. By the end of the semester, I was beat and cried sooo much. Not only was I tired physically, but also emotionally and mentally. To top everything else off, my car stopped running and I was on the verge of being evicted. The light company came to disconnect the utilities, but for whatever reason they didn't. Maybe it was the weather, but for whatever reason I'm thankful. I say all of this to say that sometimes life puts us into these situations that test our faith and determination, but we can come out on top. My child served as my motivation all semester. As many times as I wanted to give up, I didn't because I knew that she didn't deserve a life of wanting and needing, and Mommy not being able to provide. I made the Dean's List and started this semester off in a better place, emotionally and mentally.
If you have family and help, utilize it. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. Also, no matter how hard things get, try to think positively. I know its easier said than done. If there is tutoring offered, go and stay as long as you need to or can. That's what they're there for. If there is no tutoring, google is your friend. I recently saw a post with chem4kids used for chemistry help. Good luck.
MzRN2B, thank you for sharing your story. I've endured many struggles (an all at once like yourself) and I can definitely relate to just about everything you said. It's nice to know that when things get you down, the best you can do it keep pushing through it. Good luck to you!
