Single mom in nursing school...

Just curious if there are any single mothers going through nursing school willing to give me tips and advice?? I will be starting NS in January14 and I am finding myself a little scared and nervous as to how his is all gonna work out. I'm going to have to get loans to live off of because I do not want to work. I really want to focus on school. I'm also curious as to how to get my kids to school in the morning. I do not have close relatives to help. I am pretty good at figuring things out because I have no choice but I would appreciate advice and suggestions to what has worked for you. Thanks!

You are not alone sister! yep mom of 2 here..nursing student in the making...will be studying full time and have to work part time to make ends meet! Ohh it's a tough world out there! But hard work always pays off!! I'm also currently working as a legal secretary for 9years and girl and I'm still sitting in the office and not making any difference....this is the time!!! you can do it! Focus on that goal...my real inspiration are my kids! We can do this!!!!!!!

I am a single mother (separated) of 2, a 10 year old and a 20 month old. I am starting my prerequisites this summer, I only have 4 to take so it shouldn't take me that long. I hope to apply to an RN program next year. I am worried as I am the bread winner and work 40+ hours a week now. How are you able to maintain a home (rent), utilities, food, childcare, go to school, and still work at least part time? The programs I have found are evening weekend options so that will give me the flexibility to work during the day but still...not 40 hours a week. I didn't know that you could use financial aid for living expenses if you didn't live on campus. Please tell me more. Thank you :-)

Good luck to everyone!!!!

I got loans through sallie Mae and was able to take a little extra to help with bills.

Hey girlie:

Sounds like we are in the same boat. I see you wrote this post some time ago and your program should have started by now. How is it going?? I am eager to hear how things are working out for you! Good luck!

I am also very nervous about going into nursing school next year. I am a single mother of 1 child, I am taking 5 courses this semester and I will be applying for the Spring 2016 El centro college ADN nursing program in July. I am kinda nervous about the challenges I will face when that time comes but I hope that my family will be the support I need them to be during that time. Single mothers and nursing we can do it!!!!

I did an ABSN program and there were a couple single mothers in there. I have NO idea how they did it, but they did. I am a single dude with no kids and I had to study non stop..so I would say I was super impressed. I would say it maybe it like the lioness..you will do anything to take care of your children...no sleep...no free time..nothing but getting the job done. It is my only reason how, because they did it. 21 hours a semester of nursing and single mom. Defines hardcore if you ask me.

I know this post is older, but I'm needing some advice...my husband and I are splitting up, it was a toxic, abusive, manipulative relationship. I have 3 children and am starting nursing school hopefully in August (awaiting acceptance letters). Anyways. I want some insight on how to make and how you guys made it on your own with kids. I'm sure you all have graduated by now. I just need some reassurance that I can make it with 3 kids on my own and no family to help me out, as my parents both have already passed. Please tell me there is hope.
