Just curious if there are any single mothers going through nursing school willing to give me tips and advice?? I will be starting NS in January14 and I am finding myself a little scared and nervous as to how his is all gonna work out. I'm going to have to get loans to live off of because I do not want to work. I really want to focus on school. I'm also curious as to how to get my kids to school in the morning. I do not have close relatives to help. I am pretty good at figuring things out because I have no choice but I would appreciate advice and suggestions to what has worked for you. Thanks!

I'm a single mom as well & just applied to my BSN program & hope to start in January as well :) during fall & spring semesters, I've been taking about 18 credits & only working 10-16 hours a week. I have no family here, so I can relate on that & I also live off my student loans. I plan on quitting my job in January so that I won't be working during the program as well. We can do this!!

I am a single mom and it's a everyday struggle. Trying to balance school work and a small child. I have no support emotionally or financially I don't have living parents or a husband. I am the only one in my class who doesn't. Through the grace of God I have made it to the third semester. I try to focus on whats in front of me not whats to come because I can deal with that another day. There are plenty of days I cry because I am stressed out with issues, but God always get me through. I tell myself when I make it to the end of nursing school I can look back and say I made it through all the obstacles that I faced. Stay positive and let your child be your motivation. Good luck to all nursing students who are single moms because we CAN and WILL become a nurse!!!!!!!!!!!![/quote']

My parents aren't alive either. It's very difficult emotionally & people don't understand that u can't just call up the grandparents to watch the kids...it's a rough life but I feel like it can only make us stronger nurses :)

Single mom of 4 here! My son is (almost) 11, 9 1/2 year old twin girls and a 3 year old girl. Dad isn't really in the picture emotionally or financially. We divorced last year. I'm in the BSN program at my school and work full time at the hospital. Yes, it's tough - I'm a non-trad returning to school for a second career... I'm blessed to have family nearby, but I begin to feel guilty for "dumping" my kids off so much on family... HOWEVER... it's only temporary and I know that as soon as school is over, it will be so much better! Keep your chin up and keep going - it's the best example you can show your kids!! Good luck, mama!

I am also a mother of two small kids with minimal support. My kids go to daycare that will take them to school and pick them up as well. They daycare is also 24hrs which works well with my need for flexibility. I am going to be working part time as well and I know it' going to be difficult, but we are strong! We will get through this with God's help and guidance! Look for any government help you can get and DO NOT GIVE UP! Let's do this thing!!!!

I've been through many ups and downs including having to sit out a year of nursing school but, by the grace of GOD I keep pushing and finally May 2014 I will be done. Everyone keep your heads up, good luck on your journey, and know that you can and will succeed !!!

I am a single mom and graduated from nursing school in Dec '12. You can do this! I was terrified about how I would make it work, but somehow it did. Do you have any neighbors you trust? I became good friends with one of mine and she would get my kids off the bus and even have their homework done and have them fed by the time I got home some days. My kids would spend the night before my clinical day at their dad's so that was some help, but he wouldn't do more than he was "court ordered" to do, so any extra days were out of the question. There were some days that my neighbor took my kids at 6:00 am so that I wouldn't miss a clinical day. I hope your class schedule works out that you can work around your children's schedules. I always waited to do my homework until my kids went to bed around 8:00-8:30. It's not ideal, but you CAN do it. Good luck to you!! I know it is overwhelming, but you will get through it!
