Simmons University School of Nursing FNP online program

Information on requirements for Simmons University FNP program.

Updated:

Here is some information I found about Simmons from my research:

The only states not approved are North Carolina, Tennessee, New York, and Delaware - but they are actively working with these states to gain state board approval.

The campus-based program has a 100% pass rate on the certification exam, this year is the first year they have offered the online program so no pass rate from that yet given, although the courses are taught by some of the same professors who teach the in-person courses.

Set up is the same as Georgetown University (they utilize the same online program for their school with the weekly courses live online, and the pre-recorded lectures and videos to watch on your own time)

18 months full time, 14wk terms with 2-3 wk break between each term, ONE campus visit required for skills assessment. 24mo part time, everything else the same as full time.

Admission Requirements:

The Nursing@Simmons application requires applicants to have or submit the following:

Bachelor's degree from a U.S. Department of Education and NLNAC or CCNE- accredited institution.

Current U.S. Registered Nurse (R.N.) license, and have successfully completed (83 or better) a three-credit course in statistics and health assessment.

Current resume.

One- to two-page personal statement that describes your academic interests, your relevant clinical experience, and your reasons for pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing.

Transcript(s) of your academic record (see below).

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), if your native language is not English. The School of Nursing and Health Sciences TOEFL code is 3761.

The General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required, but if you feel GRE scores will strengthen your application, please contact an Admissions Counselor at 855-461-SIMM (855-461-7466).

3 Letters of Recommendation From:

A clinical supervisor or nurse manager who has direct knowledge of your work in the clinical setting.

A professor, faculty member, or academic advisor who can provide a meaningful assessment of your academic record.

A practicing clinical nursing professional who has served as a mentor.

Sealed official academic transcripts must be received by mail from all postsecondary institutions you have attended, even if a degree was not obtained, including community colleges.

Applicants who studied outside of the United States must have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree. All coursework from non-U.S. institutions must be evaluated by World Education Services.

Personal Notes

They have been the NICEST admissions reps, not overly pushy, and very thorough with helping me get all my information incorrectly. I applied to Georgetown first, and they too were nice, but since submitting my app, I can't seem to get anyone to reply to me and I still do not have a decision yet. The University of Cincinnati is not good about getting back to you via phone but do usually get a response within 2-3 days to my questions. Of the three I'm honestly now more impressed with Simmons than any of the others, so I'm hoping in the next couple of weeks to get an acceptance. I really wanted GU, but Simmons is almost $40K cheaper for the same type of set up.

Hope this helps some others with their lists of schools they want to go to! ?

I wasn't accepted. I was told my grades in A and P from 09 was "not the best" and I could retake them and reapply.

Wow. Disappointed for sure, looking elsewhere.

What were your grades if you don't mind me asking?

I think B- or a C.

Hello everyone! I am interested in getting my NP at Simmons, I will try to apply for the November cohort. I am deciding either to go full time since I want to finish it early or should I go part time, I am currently working full time. Could you tell me how many hours per week does a student allow every week for the class including when it reach the clinicals because that will be my deciding factor. I really want to finish it early but I don't want to push myself and go from full time job to part time job. Thanks!

I just got accepted into the September cohort, but I also have to take the bio bridge course. I was also advised that they wanted me to do PT instead of FT. Have they told anyone else this?

Am houk rn

I just found out I was accepted! Have to take the bridge course and they want me to go part time as well. I'm excited!

I just finished my first term as a full time student (2 A's and 1 B+), however, I will say that I had NO free time whatsoever working full time and going to school full time and I cried SEVERAL times throughout the term because of the stress. It is an intense program but I really feel like I learned A LOT! I would have stayed full time but for personal and family reasons I had to drop to part time for term two (which starts next week YEAH!) I was working 3 twelves one week and 4 twelves the next, but recently took a full time case management job working from home so I'll be working M-F until next summer when clinicals start, at which point I'll decide if i need to work part time to do clinicals or if the clinical placement team can find me weekend placement (which i'm hoping they can!). I also have three kids at home and a disabled hubby so if you can get a set schedule at work and are highly organized you will be fine with full time. On another note, when clinical start it's 16hrs a week (2- 8hr days per week)so you will need to factor that time in as well to you schedule. I do have a friend who started in the full time cohort 1 and she has been able to manage being a single mom and going full time. she just started clinicals this month as well and has no days off between work and school. You will still have classes to take while doing clinical hours as well. So far there have been plenty of class times to choose from...term one i took classes on wed evening from 5p-7p and thurs 9a-11a and the third class from 1p-3p, term two I will be taking classes on tues 630pm-830pm and thur 9pm-11pm.

hope that helps

Is anyone applying FT for the September cohort? I'm applying to Georgetown and Simmons. Still waiting for my transcripts to be evaluated since I studied overseas. I'm really hoping that my transcripts will be evaluated and be sent to the schools before or by the deadline. I'm finding that having my transcripts evaluated is the most stressful part of the application process. Also wondering if anyone has shadowed an FNP and how much weight it holds on your application if you've only shadowed them for 4-8 hours? Anyone applying that went to school abroad?

Hi! I went to school in the Philippines and had to have my credentials evaluated by WES. I agree that it was really stressful, they have strict guidelines that your school has to follow. Otherwise, they'll request for another set of TORs. The mailing and coordinating can be stressful. I did shadow 2 FNPs. Both gave me very good recommendations. I have worked with the other FNP before so he pretty much knows my work ethics. The other one i only shadowed 3times but was nice enough to write me a very good recommendation. I did apply to georgetown too but didnt make the cut off. Georgetown then automatically forwarded all my files to Simmons. Simmons waived my application fee and i pretty much didnt have to do anything and got accepted at Simmons. I am now halfway through the 1st term and loving it. Its 20k cheaper than GU and im learning so much! Im so happy i chose Simmons :)

Hi, I graduated from the Philippines din. Did you have any problems having your credentials evaluated?

Hi Angelmolina16 or you attending the program part-time or full-time?? Are u also working and attending the program?

I have applied to Simmons for the September 2014 cohort and I am praying that I get in, I just submitted my application yesterday. I spoke with the advisor and she said all they were waiting on was 2 more transcripts. I have heard so many great things about the program so I am keeping my fingers cross hoping that I get in.

Do you know how the GPA was calculated for the program? Once your application was processed and everything was received about how long did it take for you to find out that you were accepted?

Congrats on getting in the program and good luck!!:)

Nursecrystarn,

I had everything in and received on June 15th and found out I was accepted on the July 1st. It is the most nerve wracking time! Good luck!
