Anyone gotten word yet? I talked to my adviser at Simmons, still waiting on one recommendation and one transcript, but he said that as soon as he gets them he will update me via email! =) I hope it gets there soon so my countdown clock can get to ticking. I applied to March 2014.

Hi I received my master's degree in May with the focus of becoming an adult nurse practitioner. Are there any new graduates who recently took their boards or anyone who will be taking them soon. I am looking for some feedback as I will be taking mine next month. Thank you for any input.

The cost of Simmons is $57K, yes it is a bit more expensive but Georgetown University is over $80K, and University of Cincinnati is $40K, so for me, no the cost of Simmons is not that bad in relation to the amount of time I'll be in school (full time is only 18mo), and the amount of technology utilized (actual "classes" with an instructor, videos and lectures, not just discussion postings and reading and writing papers). At the same time I do have 16mo of my husbands' GI BIll to use, and I plan on applying for many scholarships and reimbursement programs that I can qualify for as well. If I have to quit my job then I will have to get food stamps or government assistance for myself and my kids. It will be a rough 18mo but financially and timing-wise this is the best option for me. My husband is disabled so I have to do what I can do and as quickly as possible. Doesn't mean a want a worthless education though either. I want to be competent in an advanced role. I think someone on here if you do a search did a cost analysis of GU vs. a longer cheaper program and in the end they balanced out to the same financials in regards to the cost of tuition and loss of income (loss of income vs. increased income after graduating) but graduating sooner meant re-couping that income faster =)
Of course i can talk about all this now, it's not a reality to me yet hahahahah, I still need an acceptance and I"m still waiting on that. Did I mention how impatient i have been waiting...sigh...LOL
No I haven't heard anything yet. Week 1 down 3-5 more weeks to go. I'll let you know as soon as I do... good or bad. Good luck to you also! :)
CK- how are you hanging in there during the waiting period??? My stuff was all submitted today! =) Here's to hurry up and waiting another 3-5 wks for me as well LOL...I waited 3 wks for Georgetown to tell me know, but my gut says Simmons is the way for me to go anyway! =) Hope you hear some good news soon!

I also applied to the FNP program at Simmons University for the Jan. start. Still waiting on a decision. Good luck to everyone that applied!
When did you apply? I've heard it's taking 3-5wks for a decision...sigh...I really hate waiting! LOL.
I just applied last week. I don't believe they received all my transcripts yet. I'm hoping to hear something by end of Nov. I also tried Walden FNP program, but they wanted all of my preceptors info for each practicum upfront and I don't have that kind of info right now. At least, Simmons assist with finding preceptors which is important to me.
I found the admissions reps at Simmons to be really great with following up on emails/calls, which helps alot! =) I know they have all my stuff as of Monday, so hoping this is my beginning of the 3-5wk waiting period! hahahaha I'm anxious and really hoping to get in for March, but I'd be okay with May too just as long as I get accepted. I really need to do a full time 18mo program because i have 16mo of my husbands' GI bill to use for financial aid, so this means I'd probably only have to take out about 10K total in student loans for the entire program =) I love the asynchronous and synchronous format the most, and thankful they use the same exact platform as GU for $30K cheaper LOL. Rooting for you, hope you get a decision soon and keep us all updated. If I get into Simmons I'll probably start a facebook page =) Tasha
Yes, Simmons was helpful. I talked to Dave and he was good at following up with me. I was told that it may take about 4 weeks. I get tuition reimbursement through my job, so that will help with the cost. I'm going to try applying for scholarships as well. Good luck to you. I will keep you updated.
