OK...so I got a C on Chronicity---I understand the whole 'C your way to RN thing'....BUT....Dept of Defense has a spouse program that will pay for my exams, and IF for some reason they will pay for me to retake it (say--I dont tell them its a re-do), to try to get a higher grade and bring my GPA up (it brought it down quite a bit) would you do it? I mean, Im not going to do it now--Id wait til I was CPNE eligible and all so Im not wasting any time. I may get CPNE eligible and just say screw it, but Id like to see what everyones opinion is. Ive sometimes heard of hospitals looking at new grad GPAs in order to determine who gets a new grad position, etc---its VERY competetive for new grads out here. Id just like to do all I can to up my chances of getting a good job after graduation. Opinions please...:wink2:

I'm not sure you should ... what if something happened and you did worse on the repeat? Especially while waiting for your CPNE date -- that would take away your eligibility. I say if it isn't broke, leave it the heck alone. :) I understand where you're coming from, but still.
You dont think theyd take the better of the 2 grades?
No, I don't. You can call them and ask, but I was under the impression that taking an exam over canceled out the first grade, regardless of score.
Gotcha, just looking for opinions here. Im thinking once I get that far I wont even look back at that course, but I dont want to kill my chances at a job based on one stikin' score, ya know. Thanks Lunah!

I retook a test for a better grade, but it is true that the second grade is it. If you do worse, then that is what you have. If you go from a C to a D, then I believe you can take it again, but if you get a D again, then you have a problem. Hopefully, this would not be the case.
I found this in the student policy handbook on page 39:
"All attempts count toward the limit on failed exams. The original exam grade(s) will be flagged with a symbol designating it as a repeated examination. The highest grade is computed in the overall GPA and the EC GPA, except for the School of Nursing's theory exams, where the most recent grade--not the highest grade--is computed in the overall GPA."

I was told the same thing by a EC nursing advisor when I cowed out over a C. If I did worse the next time around, I was toast and stuck with that grade. I understand not liking a C very much.
When I was in nursing school (a regular one), I was not a C student, so I couldn't see having my GPA dragged down by the score on one exam. So I can totally see why you would want to consider retaking it.

See---I had a 3.57 prior to Chronicity, now after getting an A on Info Lit, Repro, and Transitions its only back up to 3.53. I may just take it and run though. Seems like too much of a gamble...
