Hello Everyone,

What degree/certification should I do to mimick the career of Agent Starling in the Silence of the Lambs?

i.e. interview criminals, write about them, crime scene investigation, death investigation.

Brief info about myself: Registered Nurse -IL (8/08:D), Masters Degree in Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Science - Accounting

to be considered as a special agent for the fbi:

  1. one must be between the ages of 23 and 37 upon appointment as special agent
  2. have a bs degree
  3. must first qualify under one of five special agent entry programs:

  • accounting
  • computer science/information technology
  • language
  • law
  • diversified

What should be the first certificate I should work on to enhance my resume in the forensics realm?

I would look into a certificate in Forensic Nursing. If you are leaning towards Masters in Forensic Nursing, that is available, too. Check out this sticky thread about different educative entities:

Whats the next thing you would recommend besides the cert. in forensic nursing.

They want 5 years experiance before you can become certified. Im 34 and need something within a year because of the FBI age cutoff of 37.

You are correct that to be certified as Forensic Nurse, you are required to have at least 5 years RN experience before being certified by the American College of Forensic Examiners.

You can try SANE certification. You must have at least 2 years RN experience.

You need to contact the FBI and see if they can advise you further since you are wanting a position there.

Is there any way to be an affiliate while Im earning my minimum work experiance requirement?

So I can put on the resume Im involved with the organization and help.

You can join the International Association of Forensic Nurses

But, there is no such thing as an affiliate SANE.

Ok, what i'll do is put it down as a membership and then work towards the certification.

btw, the town next to me is working on my background check.........for police officer, i tested with them when i was finishing RN school. It will be nice to be a cop and RN.......lets see how I can help the RN profession by linking the two to help in forensics.
