Somehow it is never easy to relate everything you did in a shift, but you know it was CRAZY, and you don't want to face it again. Thru the years I have had bad shifts where I did not want to go back, but usually it always worked out it wasn't as bad the next day I worked. Hope it goes that way for you. Just tell yourself it's over with, and you did the best you could.

Hi all...I've not really vented before, but I really need to today...
Have you ever had one of those evenings when your pt assignment LOOKED ok; MESH numbers were ok; but the evening was a total, chaotic mess????
I came on (M/S unit) with 4 pts, one being a direct admit from clinic who would be arriving during report....my assigned rooms were 2 pts on the south, one on north and one on the west. Just doing all that running makes it crazy!
I had blood sugars to do, my new admit needed an IV (not to mention admission paperwork up the wazoo! plus 1700 meds, insulins, assessments, etc on the other 3 pts!)...then MDs coming in after clinics to see pts and write orders....
Around 2130, a pts Saline Lock was occluded and I was already late in hanging a STAT med that pharmacy had to come in after hours to mix .....
I did take a whole 5 minute break to eat an apple and drink some milk....
I left work in tears and really don't want to go back tonight. I just felt worthless last evening. I know that I did my best, but somehow that just didn't seem good enough.
Thanks for reading...Just had to get it off my chest.
