Sick of NURSES who say they HATE NURSING!! Another Vent

Nurses General Nursing

OKK.. I am a new grad, who is still searching for a job ( 1 1/2 months), as are many others right now, I am just so sick of hearing nurses who HAVE JOBS talk about how they HATE nursing, how is this fair?? I understand having days that are frustrating, but not nurses who openly talk about how they HATE their jobs...SO QUIT ALREADY so that those of us who actually would like to work can have a job!! Alot of nurses say ..."just wait you'll see what we're saying", but I worked as a pca/cna for 3 years and @ times frustrating (yes...2 pca's on a large unit w/ total care patients is no cake walk either) but overall I still liked my job...I can only hope that one day IF I ever reach the point where I feel like I hate my job (esp. since being a nurse does involves CARING) that I will have the courage and care enough for my patients to leave!

I'm sorry but I have to agree with Trish!!!And frankly I dont understand why didnt you get the hint earlier in nursing school that nursing might not be for you..I mean you spend in nursing school 2 to 4 years so you should have arleady known if you will like nursing job or not!!!!

Are you a nurse? I spent 2 years in nursing school, where clinicals I had 1 maybe 2 patients. In the real world you have about on average 8 patients. BIG difference. Give me my 2 patients only and my views may be different. Clinicals and nursing school did NOT prepare me for the "real" nursing world. I know very FEW people who thought the were adequately prepared.

I didn't say I hate what I do, I said on most days I hate my job. I love my patients and the place I work now has some great people. I hate management who has NO medical background trying to tell me how to do things. I dare you to find me a nurse, or anyone else, who loves their job everyday.

I agree with Dream'n. It is really irritating to those of us here who are already nurses (and I don't mean a new grad that hasn't even had their own patient load yet) that so many feel that those that vent about their jobs are whiners and complainers and shouldn't be nurses. That is NOT true. Many advances in nursing care have been made by people that care enough to speak up, not those that just sit back and refuse to make waves. IMO the complainers have done a lot more for the nursing profession than those who just sit idly by and go with whatever crazy idea management comes up with next.

There is a difference between hating your job,be rude to your pt,coworkers and just be mad at the whole world and venting.

This is exactly what I'm talking about, nursing schools dont adequately prepare us for the real world.Instead of blaming the hospital systems maybe you should take at look at nursing programs.

LOL. I never said I was rude to patients or co-workers, or that it was okay to be rude to patients or co-workers.

Some of the students and new grads here are in for a rude awakening. Don't take my word for it, though. In a few months we will be seeing 'nurses eat their young' posts from many posting in this thread, methinks. Do yourselves a favor and don't alienate the experienced nurses on your units the way that you are alienating them here. Your nursing life will be much more difficult than it needs to be.

If you arent ever rude to your patients or co-workers then this thread isnt even about you...BTW you are in for a rude awakening if you expect a new grad or anyone for that matter to not "alienate" themselves from the kind of nurse that I was describing (the one who trained my friend...which is what this whole thread is about). Why make a bad situation worse? Then again they do say misery loves company.

You can hate your MCdonals job who cares, you can hate your office job who give a flying ....but you are dealing with arleady miserable people and they need you support, and how can you give it if you dislike your job, sorry but nursing is a special field not for everyone I guess, you dont want to be that dreaded nurse pt talks about when they go home unless you totally dont care about the feelings of people going through health crises and I dont mean for you to be an angel just leave your frustrations at home, everyone has their own problems and they have to learn to deal with it and a sick person has a right to nice treatment if you dont thinks so well you miss the whole point of becoming a nurse and you are obviously just working for straigh money but just remeber it is not fair to the pt as well to yourself!:twocents:

I bet you I will not surrender myself with "experienced" miserable nurses. And why should I so they can poison me with their negativity.I learned quickly in nursing job that it doesnt pay off to become too friendly, the best way is to be nice, professional, polite but really keep to yourself and focus on your job.

Please get off of all this pie in the sky touchy-feely crap. Nursing is a profession and nurses are educated professionals. They must always be respectful and polite to their patients, but so should all employees not matter the occupation (Yes, even McDonalds). Competent and respectful care is what it is all about.

You right they must but some arent, just because someone went to school doesnt make them nice and polite, education is one thing good manner, upbringing second, please do not confuse those too.It really makes me laugh when people tend to associate education with good manners, friendly attitude etc...school can teach you skills but I guess some nurses are born with congenital personality defect

I am one who believes that the "touchy feel-y" crap is necessary in nursing. The mind body connection is very profound and empathy and compassion go a long way towards healing. It isn't the MAIN thing, but it's an integral part of nursing (and being a doctor IMHO).

In any case, you can hate your job, or be very dissatisfied with you job, and still be really really good with your patients. I am one of those types. I protect and care for my patients and treat them with compassion as well as dignity. Some people here would say I coddle them, but I believe it's part of my job to allow them to feel safe and cared for. Both patients and families.

But I DO NOT like certain aspects of my job and I DO complain about those aspects.
