SHSU Fall 2019 (Sam Houston State University)

Published

Hey guys! I didn't see a thread for applicants for Sam Houston State University BSN Fall 2019, so I decided to make one. I am in the process of making my NursingCAS application.

My Stats:

Teas Overall: 86%

  • Math: 93.8%
  • Reading: 85.1%

Overall GPA: 3.5

Pre-Nursing GPA (according to GPA calculator on shsu website) : 3.5

I do have credits from SHSU, and I also took MATH 1370. I am not a licensed CNA, although I did take the course.

@asalinas did you consider chamberlain school of nursing? It’s private too and way cheaper than university of st thomas. I’m looking into it but shsu is my first and only choice.

I had looked into it a while back but I personally never heard the best things from that school so I guess my brain kinda forgot about it when I started applying to schools.

I would call the school but I’m at work. Anyone willing to get new intel for us?

@asalinas oh ok. From my experience of applying and finding out about nursing schools, every school has its pros and cons. I had given up on chamberlain until 2017 when I had my first daughter and the nurse who took care of me then was so nice and lovely. Found out she went to chamberlain and I decided to consider it again. So here I am in 2019 finally ready to get into nursing school again and if shsu doesn’t work, chamberlain it is then.

I always told myself that it doesn't matter what school I attended that as long as I'm able to receive my BSN then that's all that matters because regardless of the school you're still yourself and you still get to be an awesome nurse. I remember looking at the total cost which is $88,000 and I guess that's what had scared me away bc it seemed so much compared to other schools like UT health and UTMB that ranges in the $20K. I really hope you get into Sam & that it works out for all of us bc god knows that I really need things to work out for me at this point lol

I called and they told me “45 days from May 1,” but they said hopefully by Friday (which I think is 45 days).

@asalinas you’re right, get your bsn and pass the nclex that’s the ultimate goal. I pray God makes everything work for everyone. I’m at a point in my life where I need to get something doing, being home for too long and I’ve two babies already so it’s time to face my life. I actually have a degree before and I’ll be transferring up to 48credit hours to chamberlain so the cost is not up to 88k for me, so glad I could transfer classes.

And no emails have gone out yet as of 200pm today.

My only worry with Chamberlin is the kinda crappy NCLEX pass record but that might be because people go into that program from high school ?‍♀️. Its also really hard to figure out what transfers and what extra “different” classes if any we would have to take. It all gets complicated but I’m getting desperate too. If I don’t get in this round(not anticipating it but still hoping for a miracle) I’ll be applying to TWU, UT Health, SHSU and prairie view A&M for spring as well as lone stars ADN program as a backup. I’m in classes now to turn two Bs to As before application due dates for most schools and 3 Bs to As for SHSU spring application because it’s due last but I’m definitely overwhelmed with 2 kids (2.5 and 1) and only so much time and money left to get my education done before life gets harder when they start going to real school

looks like we will know by Friday forsure!

Unless it is 45 BUSINESS days. Then we have until the end of June ??‍♀️

I feel like at this point they’ve known for a couple days but are going to wait to send out the emails until almost closing time so they don’t have to take a bunch of calls today ?
