Should lpn try to keep cna license?

Nurses LPN/LVN

I have my lpn but I also still have a cna license, should i try to keep the cna license or let it expire?

I personally don't see the point in keeping it, I let mine go.

Specializes in TBI and SCI.

I personally got my cna just for my resume to prove I passed an additional nursing test and practical. I've never worked as a cna. I actually took, my cna test a few days after my nclex so m issuing dates are only a month apart lol. I'm going to let mine expire, it's only useful to me since I'm a new grad. ( an additional cert. On my resume)

I could be wrong on this but I feel like I have read that since CNA scope falls underneath your LPN scope, you no longer need an active an license if you wish to practice as one. The con is that even if you are working in a STNA capacity, your still held to the scope of your LPN practice or something of that nature...try google and your state, it may differ.

I second this post... I had my CNA card before becoming an LPN. The nursing school I went to required that we obtain a CNA card before going through LPN school. It was still active after I got my LPN license. I let mine lapse after getting my LPN, as LPN work is out of scope of practice for a CNA.
