I had the option to take my geriatric med-surg over the summer (and during another summer, I was able to take my community health rotation). I was all over that. The class size was much smaller (7-10 students) and the class was also shorter (classes used to be about 8 weeks in length during a regular semester but over the summer they were only 5) and let me tell you, that was the best thing I ever done. I only had that one class I had to focus on in the summer instead of five+ other classes during a regular semester. Taking those classes also got me ahead in nursing school and I was able to graduate a semester earlier.
And for my community health rotation? First off, I thought that rotation was very boring. The lecture was even worse. The instructors didn't have enough "time" to squeeze everything in 5 weeks, so we actually reviewed less material than the traditional 8 week-long course. So it was actually easier for us in the summer. And honestly, I think I would have gouged my eyeballs out if I had to sit through 8 weeks of that lecture.

Hello all! so I am halfway though my 2nd semester of nursing school going good so far! Thankfully !! I start my clinical rotations next week yay! nervous but excited. My floor assignment is Oncology/Hospice. Super nervous about that! Anyways onto what I am asking ..... So we have to take peds, ob, and psych next semester. Last semester and this semester our school had 5 weeks with each so you would have 5 weeks with peds, then 5 weeks with OB, then 5 weeks with Psych. Well of course when it is my turn to do this they change it all up. Now instead of having it separated we have all 3 all at once :/ eek! I know people do this everywhere and are just fine I am just super nervous! They have given us the option if we would like to take peds as a 5 week course in the summer. I am debating if I should do this or not.... The teacher said it is very intense so it worries me I may not pass. If I took peds in the summer I would only have OB and Psych in the fall which still puts me at full time which is a good thing. Does anyone have any input on what I should do? What would you do if you were in my shoes? Part of me says do peds in the summer so you can concentrate on it and have only 2 classes in the fall while the other half says suck it up and do all 3 at once like 90% of everyone else is doing.... Thoughts anyone?
Thanks in advance!!
