Why do some nurses hate it in others pump at work?
In my experience, the nurses that pump while at work leave every 45min to 1 hr to pump for 30min and I am left watching thier patients for more than half of their shift, so I can understand why the traveler is upset.

What Else Can I Do For A Living?
I wish I could be of more help, but I do not have a lot of management experience! My current goal is to finish up NP school (5months) I went part time while working as a RN so it has taken a little over 2 years. I really do hope you find something that you enjoy, life is to short to be miserable (ask my poor husband has a good blue collar job makes decent money, but hates every second of it). I really do hope you find something, I plan on working a few years as a NP and eventually go back and get my doctorate and teach, as I really enjoy the education portion of nursing. My immediate thought would be manage a physicians office but I am not sure you would enjoy that either since it is healthcare, I am not sure what aspects of healthcare you dislike (maybe I should read on down the thread!). What about working for an insurance company would that be something you are interested in? Or in a rural community helping individuals find health care that they need? I would enjoy doing that, but I think I picked the wrong concentration for my masters degree :/ I really do hope you find something though. I will try to pick the brains of some colleagues of mine and get back to you if anyone has any ideas :) Best of luck to you!

working in urgent care
I recently started working at urgent care PRN, they clean out ears there of course. A lot more people than you would think come in "clogged up ears". My concern is this... the nurses RNs and LPNs get an order to flush out the ear with hydrogen peroxide/warm water mixture. So they stick the thing in there and just go to flushing and tell me "see the patient jump a little? that means your in the right place".... I do not agree with this AT ALL. I also am worried about flushing an ear without being able to see the eardrum to know if the eardrum is potentially perforated or not. Then they go to scraping the ear wax out and one of the nurses said again to me as she did this "see him cringe a little? that means your on the eardrum so you are getting all the wax" ummmm I'd rather not be poking the ear drum! What are my options here? Am I being to cautious to not want to blindly squirt something or scrape in someones ear? I am worried to death of squirting ear wax through a perforated ear drum and causing more damage. Maybe I am being to cautious, but I must say this doesn't sound right to me. I usually try to pass tasks like this off to a RN that works there full time, and I handle triaging the patient, simply because it seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Why the double standard.
agreed, if I can help the male nurse protect his license why can't they return the same favor? males can just as well sue female nurses as well.

Why the double standard.
female nurse here who works in day surgery, I completely understand where the OP is coming from, I have to do swabs, foleys, take care of vasectomy patients, care for post op male patients who have had their genitals repaired, etc. The minute a female patient comes out of the OR with a breast aug, tubal ligation, hysterectomy, or anything of the sorts I have to then take the patient for the male nurse because he thinks they patient may like a female nurse better without even speaking with the patient or anything they just assume, but they won't take care of the male patients if I feel like they may prefer a male nurse, or if I am uncomfortable due to comments from the patient. I am not sure why it is like it is, but it is and I don't think it will ever change.

What's In A Name Badge?
I shouldn't care but I do, some nurses where I work have BSN-RN on their badge and others have RN, what I think is crazy is I was hired on with a BSN-RN, another colleague just got their BSN and they issued them a new badge with BSN-RN, while mine still says RN. I also do not like having my last name on my badge as some of the patients I care for are inmates, etc. I do feel like though many other nurses LPNs, and ADNs treat BSN nurses poorly as they think that us BSN nurses think we are better than them, when in reality we aren't and I have learned the majority of my nursing skills and other skills from ADNs LPNs, and CNAs/techs! I in no way think I am better than anyone! I just feel like I worked hard for those other 3 letters lol, oh for the day that nurses don't eat their young...... Back to the last name thing, I have had patients request me on facebook, of course I did NOT accept, but its worrying when you get requests from patients, and patients who look up your nursing license by your first and last name and ask if your address is next to blah blah road, or restaurant... because they looked it up online on google... I feel like it is a huge safety issue especially in some situations.

final warning
My advice is like most others, resign now before they make it worse for you or make you ineligible for rehire. So sorry this is happening!

RN salary expectations
I am in the NE TN region, hospital pay for new grads in my area is 17.70/hr now, it was 18.60/hr when I graduated in 2014, in private practice RN pay ranges from starting 16/hr-17/hr. The hospital pay is base pay without any diffs, such as night shift, ICU, etc. Night shift in my area adds $1/hr and critical care adds 50 cents/hr. I personally feel like the area as a whole is underpaid for the education, and demands of the job.

I hate night shift
So since everyone except for maybe 2 or 3 people were completely rude and downright mean I just want to let all of you know that I am in my 2nd year of NP school, thriving, and working a day shift job that I absolutely love, I work with great people and have an amazing manager. I haven't been on here in a while because it just made me so mad and negative again to read all the rude comments. No I would not make it as a military wife that is why I am not one..... My best friend is one and hates it but her husband is currently in his last month. No Callie is not my sock puppet but she is really nice for the discussions I have had with her in private messages. I am sorry you are all people that seem to thrive off of telling someone how wrong they are, etc. Enjoy eating your young as most older more experienced nurses do.

College books are the biggest scams ever
I just spent $444 for books for the first 2 classes of my MSN program....... I couldn't afford the books if I was full time. One book for Patho New edition OF COURSE was $211. My favorite is when the university has their own "special" edition.

Every Nurse has that one patient they'll remember forever
I will always remember a patient I had that was so very sweet, he was one of my oncology patients, when I left my unit he was so sincere he was truly sad I was leaving. I still wonder how he is doing, he was on the upswing when I left and I can only hope and pray that he still is.. He would always give me hugs and candy when he came in for his chemo treatments. My last night with him he said I was so sweet and he could sense that I really cared for my patients. He asked me one nigh : "That lady across the hall is she your patient too?" I responded yes I have these 6 up front tonight. He then asked" she has had a bunch of people in her room today all kinds of doctors and nurses, does she have something worse than cancer?" I had to kind of laugh because that is just how his thought process was he thought that cancer wasn't the worst thing that had ever happened and I just smiled and said she is just having some difficulty breathing so we are having to watch her closely, but if you need me I will be right outside your room charting tonight. He was just such a sweet patient and gentleman I will forever miss him. He was like family to all the nurses and staff there. He is the only thing I miss from my hospital days !

New Grad...should i stick with nursing?
I love this response this is very very truthful.... Bedside nursing in the hospital nurses get treated like slaves and are expected to do 100 different things with only 2 hands and not the adequate supplies. I left bedside nursing at just 6 months in and I don't regret it a second. Now in the outpatient surgery setting and going back to get my masters for my FNP I start in January and I couldn't be happier.

A less stressfull career choice
I understand what you are saying, I hated my nursing job in the hospital. I am now in ambulatory surgery and it is 10X better than the hospital. I was a new nurse in the hospital for about 6 months I gave it my 6 months hated every second of it and left with my 2 week notice in place. I know what you mean about the time off stuff its ridiculous. Anyone who says you are stuck do NOT believe them. I am going back to school to get my NP so I don't become "stuck" best of luck to you I understand where you are coming from. Look for a nursing job outside the hospital community health, outpatient surgery, de office, etc. Money may not be the same but I may be worth it. Best of luck to you - nurse with only 8 months of experience under my belt.
