Should I take A&P and medical terminogy at the same time?

Published

Hey guys. I posted a topic a couple of days ago about making bad grades throughout high school and beginning of college. - https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/bad-grades-hs-937612.html This would be helpful to read if you have any suggestions for me!

Now I am starting over and want to go into nursing, but I'm afraid of making bad grades again! However, I really would like to be on track. I decided to take A&P I in the fall and test the waters. Along with that I'll take English II online. I took English I and Gen Psychology online over the summer and found it to be easy. I am deciding whether I should take medical terminology too or not. And if I did, I'm wondering if I should take it online or not. Or is there another class that is fairly simple I could take? What do you guys recommend?

I would take medical terminology as well, and I would take it online. I have had horrible grades too and have been taking precautions to do as best as I can in school now, and those three classes sound like a reasonable load. Medical terminology is not hard if you have a will to learn it and to memorize. Classes that you know you will need for your career always seem substantially easier because you know why you're taking it.

Thanks for replying to my posts! You've been with me ever since I signed up! Haha. I think I could do it if I put my mind to it. You said something about how it's difficult for you to mix the easy and the hard classes because you might slack in the other and not take it seriously. I'm hoping that wouldn't be the case for me. I need to remember that no matter what class it is, I need to take it seriously to get accepted into nursing!

Take as many classes as you can before taking the actual nursing course... Once you get into the nursing program that's all you need to focus on. Get microbiology out of the way and all your co-requisits out of the way. Don't worry about your past grades in high school. I wasn't great in high school either but when I got into college I was doing better.. maybe because of the fact that I was PAYING for my education. Good luck

If there is any course that is doable along with A/P, it is probably Med Term, a good choice. Also, look to see if your school offers a course in CPR (some schools do) and take that. It should only run a day or maybe a weekend.

I would say go for it...I am taking medical terminology in the fall....it's not required for my program but I need another class to maintain my financial aid and it will benefit me soo I'm going that route. Med term comes fairly easy for me...i took it in high school (a long time ago) so I already have a base knowledge of it. of the courses listed I would say that is probably the easiest one to pair with A&P and that sounds like a reasonable course load

You're welcome! I screwed up and I want to let you know you're not alone! Haha, yeah, everyone learns and does thing completely different. That's why it's good to get opinions from a forum like this because you can get information that may or may not help you, but everything is subjective and you get different point of views. I'm with you though, I plan on doing everything right to bring up and maintain my grades whether that means staying an undergrad for another 10 years (hopefully that does not happen). I just want to be a nurse in the end :)

I did ! It's not hard.

Medical terminology was a really easy course. It was a prerequisite for my program and didn't mind the easy A. I spent almost no time studying for that class.

I took it online. Very easy course

Can't tell if anyone answered this yet, but a general elective is just an elective that a lot of schools require as a general education requirement just to add to an "all around" degree. A general elective may be a class that was transferred from another school that does not count toward anything specific (this happened to me, I took three business courses at a school and when they transferred over to OSU, they classified them as general electives...I guess that's why you research before taking courses at a school you know you don't plan staying at!), they may also be courses that would count in a specific requirement such as art or English, but don't count as that because you already have a credit for it if that makes sense (ex. you have credit for a history course and it counts as a history requirement, but you take another history course and that will count as a general elective).
