Should I stay or should I go?

So I work in an ASC and things are getting rough financially for our facility. We are privately owned and the balance in our checking account is beyond low according to our bookkeeper. We have had a couple of doctors leave our facility and go to the hospital because they offered them a lot more money/benefits. If a piece of equipment breaks down one more time it will probably put us under. Every time she does payroll she says that we are getting way to close for comfort. It is not going to get any better from what our bosses are saying, but they said they won't go down without a fight. In reality the owners don't seem to really care if we close as they are pretty much ready to retire and we never see or hear from them anyways.

My question is I love the people I work with but, do I go down with the ship or should I jump ship so to say before I go to work one day and find the doors locked shut.

Look for a new job now unless you can afford to be unemployed and lose health benefits (if you have them) for an undetermined length of time.

I guess I was just hoping things would turn around but we are ordering things like one box of sutures at a time, etc, as we are having a hard time ordering like we used to, such as by the case. I think lately we are barley breaking even every month. I guess today I breakout the old resume and bring it up to date. Thanks pfchang.

I would do that. There's nothing that says you have to stay with the sinking ship. Look out for yourself.

Finding out about the true nature of the crisis instead of being blindsided, happened for a reason. Don't pass on utilizing the opportunity to look out for yourself.

Just an update, l put in for an OR position at the local hospital when it came up a few weeks after the original post and was called for an interview 2 days later. They offered me the job for a lot more money than I am making now and are willing to train me in larger more difficult surgeries including trauma. I truly can't believe it. So I'm a little sad to be leaving my current OR position at the ASC, but somewhat terrified and excited to be moving into a new position. Kind of like moving to a new school and having to make friends all over again. As a bonus the hospital is so close I can walk to work in less than 5 minutes! Thanks for the encouragement to get out there and find something else before I went down with the ship. You guys are fantastic!
