Should I retake this class?

Published

I'm currently a student at laguardia CC. I took an algebra class thinking I was going pre-med, but failed it in order to focus more on required classes for the RN program at my school. I currently have a 3.7 GPA in the Pre-Clinical classes, but my overall gpa is a 2.67 because of the algebra class I failed. It is not required for my school'

s nursing program. Should I retake the class to boost my cumulative gpa? Or just focus on my required classes?

Will your school wipe out the first grade and replace it with the new grade, or does it stay there in addition to taking it again? Some schools keep both in the mix.

Upping your GPA can't hurt. Not to mention math is pretty important is med calculations, all basic algebra equations.

If the new grade will replace the old one and/or you're thinking about going on to school further after you get your ADN, you really should retake. Since you already took it once, it should be easier and help your GPA.

meet or call someone in the nursing advising department. I too had the same issue, I had 3 Fs on my transcript from previous major and retook 2 of those classes and it boosted my GPA alot. I have one left and am debating on retaking it because I feel the same I want to focus more on the required classes rather than a class that has nothing to do with nursing but is bringing down my GPA a little. see what your school looks at for admissions and go from there.
