For titles, I thought of:

Covid forced me into abstinence

My boyfriend left me for a non-covid nurse.

Safe sex in the age of Covid

Number 2 is a winner. Everyone is going to click on that.

Probably not but if it's local politicians and enough nurses contacted them it, it might.

What I meant was identity would be protected.

Oh, I see. Yes, I agree with you. The politicians would be raising it as a general concern if they received enough emails not naming names.

First, you need to organize. All the individual nurses cannot do what a labor union can. I'm so happy to be union, particularly now. There is a team of people who have done nothing, full-time but advocate for more PPE , and keeping our employers accountable for all aspects of this pandemic
As a result of our union, we had a major victory here in MN three days ago-

A state law passed that says any HCW, who has direct patient contact is entitled to full workman's comp if they are out of work for covid, either confirmed or suspected quarantines.

This is a huge victory- previously, all of our hospitals were arguing we were not entitled to this (as are most places around the country) as we would not be able to prove that we got it at work

The law says that the employers have to prove we didn't get it at work.
And if they cannot prove it, they must pay out full compensation for the total length of time we are out of work

I'm not saying anyone shouldn't speak up- I still make calls a minimum of 3x week to all my local politicians, national, and my governor..

But for God sake's people, if you are not union, start working on that too

I can promise you that at the end of all of this, all the union nurses are going to come out on the other side much better than non-union

Back to my question-

What would it take to motivate people on this forum to take action?

I don't even mean to put their own butts on the line. I mean to put as much energy into actually doing something about it as they put into talking and venting about it.

What if 1000 nurses spent 1 hour each writing public officials, contacting local papers, and talking to donors?

If there is one thing this forum demonstrates it's that people have plenty of keyboard time right now.

I missed your first thread ... as it’s getting busier and busier I take quicker and quicker glances at the threads and then I’m on my way.

I’m heavily involved in the Sandy Hook Promise, and was right from the beginning. That involved countless letter writing to our public officials and papers, etc. It took a dedicated group of people and those grief stricken families to say, “no more.” But it took so much work.

I like the idea of writing ... because that’s how we started at first. You get organized. And it snowballs from there. I’m willing to do that, and as we are now walking right into the worst of it right now in several areas of the country, writing is something we can do. At the moment, it’s the little bit that I CAN do, until this surge passes.

And not even start a new thread. Hell, create a new section where we can go where it won’t get lost in the midst. Create that sexy title, and lets go. Start getting organized. Organize by state - here are your congressman. Start by little goals. Etc

Maybe I should have used "dream job" in the thread title.

As long as there are trump supporters....nothing positive will get done.

I totally agree with dinah77. I see this all over the nursing groups I’m a part of on social media... the martyr complex... and, I honestly feel like the odd man out every time I express having an issue with current PPE policies. I also feel like the only nurse wherever I’m working ever willing to say.. I DID NOT sign up for this.. I never agreed to risk my life in order to take care of my patients... and, quite frankly, I shouldn’t have to. I love being an ICU nurse, but this martyr mentality is adding to the problem, and it will be the reason that nothing changes. Personally, I feel that my own health and family are more important than a COVID19 merit badge. I’ve been out sick since the beginning of April and may actually have COVID19. But, I will not be going back to work unless an antibody test can confirm COVID... because this isn’t worth my life.

I cancelled a contract because they wanted me to take care of a COVID positive patient without proper PPE, citing new guidelines from the CDC. Unfortunately my respiratory system hasn't changed since the new guidelines. I can still breath in droplets. I'm single with no children. I'm relatively healthy but who's going to take care of me when I'm recuperating from the virus. I have always wanted to go into policy changes for our nursing profession. Any ideas how I can get started? I want to take this to the top.

If that's your real name, you should change it to a fictitious name.
