Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

I am currently working on my LVN at a vocational school in California and I'm about to start my 3rd Term(its a total of 4 terms not including an additional 3 months of mandatory review). However, I am not happy at the school I am at . The instructors are horrible and the DON is the same way. It is all about favoritism at this school. I am very unhappy here and I can't seem to get motivated anymore.(and I have really tried) I was thinking of quiting that school and starting the RN program at a community college even if it takes more time. I just don't know what decision to make. I keep going back in forth about sticking to this school however I'm at the point where I can't even retain any information or learn anything because I am that unmotivated and unhappy. Can anyone help!!!!!

There is nothing dreadful than being unhappy! If you think you are not treated based your brains, its not worth staying there. Plus, you wnat to upgrade your self, as an LVN, you will be exposed with what RN does and you will see you are capable of doing it. Why should you get paid less because you are not RN!!

I always say shoot for BIG,go ahead and be RN!!!

If you get accepted, then go for RN, however, most programs will accept you more readily if you have an LVN/LPN. As for the favoritism, and poor attitudes, It's something you're going to have to learn to deal with in the real world of nursing. If you can learn to negotiate hostile personalities now, then you'll have no problem in the future. Besides, why would you want to give them the satisfaction of you quitting? Time to be selfish and think about your best interests. :D

i would stick it out and finish and then apply for the rn program.

I don't think it will bode well for you giving up in the middle (actually, almost the end!) of your LPN schooling. Favoritism is something that occurs at every school, not just yours. Look at the reasons why you are feeling unmotivated and unhappy. Are you succeeding in your classes? In what way are your instructors "horrible"? The grass isn't always greener on the other side. You may encounter the same thing in the next school you go to. Don't let the attitudes of others distract you from your ultimate goals. Without a doubt, you have paid good money to be in this program you are in now. Don't let that fall by the wayside. Finish out your LPN. You will have a faster and easier time getting into RN school if you do. Keep a good, positive attitude. Don't be distracted by the favoritism of others as they will have nothing to do with your schooling and your career in the long run. In the real world of nursing, you are going to encounter this all the time. You are going to face DON's that are sub par. You will run into nurses who are the "favorites" of the administration despite the fact that perhaps they shouldn't be. Re-focus yourself and remember why you went there. You went there with the ultimate goal of being a nurse. Why start all over again at this point? It's going to cost you a lot of money and time to do that...a lot of time and money wasted.

Keep on going forward. Don't worry about what others are doing/saying. Complete your studies, get your LPN and then move on to your RN. This will all be nothing more than a distant memory a few years from now.

Good luck to you!

THank you all for your suggestions!!!

I vote for enduring the remaining months then applying to RN school. Think of these months as part of preparing for RN.

If you asked before starting LVN school, I would have told you to go for RN!!! I remember taking the NCLEX with as a GN sitting in the room with GVN thinking how fortuante, I will never have to sit through this again and they will have to do it again even if they pass. I absolutely couldn't do it again. Yes, I bragging, 75 questions in two hours, I never ever want to go through that again in life! Life has been so much easier after the NCLEX for RN. I actually didn't read your verbage, but I'm here to tell you sweetheart develop a think skin, because you would think nursing would be about helping people, it isn't and will never be. It is a business! Get your thick skin on girlfiend shut up grin and take it! Just keep moving forward, your revenge, being an RN and never having to put up with anyone's crap if you don't want to, especially after you become experienced. There is always something better, more money and better benefits!!!

Sweetheart, excuse me, that's thick skin...Grin smile a lot and never tell anyone what you really think, if they don't have a suggestion box, mums the word!
