Should I go to pct school or lpn school?

Nursing Students Technicians

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone. Im.currently enrolled in community college to get my associates then originally transfer to a university to get my BSN, however I was introdiced to the lpn program. It only takes a year, from a technical school, and I will be able to transfer to the community college to get be a registered nurse. It is a lot less expensive than my initial plan.

But I was also thinking of going to school to be a patient care technician. I want experience in the hospital setting, many tell me just to go to lpn program and some advise me to go for the patient care technician, get my feet wet then apply fpr the lpn program in a year. I honestly love the thought of both paths because I have always wanted to care for patients. Any advice on what path I should consider?

I am currently in a Pct program in a hospital based school it is very likely the students in my class will be hired by the

hospital group the school is in . I plan to work for the hospital if hired then start applying to RN programs near where I live

i will continue to work as a PCT while in the RN PROGRAM It is very likely I will then be hired as an RN

once I graduate and pass NCLEX this seems to be a more favorable route to me

any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated

I took PCT at tech college in hopes of increasing my wages. What I got was a job at a hospital for PCT making a little over 10.00 an hour, no raise in over a year or bonus since I started, and by how wages are increased my wages in five years will likely only increase 6 percent more then I make now. I made better money as a waitress. Now on the other hand some people get a good paying job as PCT, depends on the luck of who hires you and the state you live in,,if cost of living is higher in that area. Go for LPN then bridge to RN someday.
