Should I go for my BSN or ADN?

I'm in an ADN program right now at Morton College. I chose it because including tuition and books and supplies it will cost me less than $10,000 to be an RN. We take the same NCLEX exam and I can and will probably pass more easily than some BSN students. I am going to do an ADN to MSN program after I start working as an RN and have my employer help pay for it.

I'm in the LPN to RN (ADN) program but I'm also taking the classes needed to fulfill the ADN to BSN program.

In this area I'm noticing a lot of hospitals are requiring a BSN for certain floors, etc.

I attend a college that also is connected to a hospital. My hopes are that I can land a job as an RN with my ADN at that hospital and then they will pay for my BSN (job perk)

Also consider what the hiring market is for your area (or the region you might want to work in) -- I'm in Northern California and it seems the trend for the new grad residency programs, and many of the hospitals, is to phase out ADNs. Most of the new grad positions I've seen recently have either only accepted BSNs or said "BSN-preferred" which, due to the over-saturation of qualified BSN RNs where I live, means that most of the ADNs are having a LOT of difficulty getting jobs.

So for the region/market in my area I'd definitely say get the BSN. It makes one far more competitive around here. Ultimately, you'll have to make the decision for what would be best for you depending on where you want to work & what the hiring climate is there.

Thank you! Yeah I've been researching like crazy and the job market even here on long island new York is extremely towards the BSN... Looks as if theyre defintely trying to phase them out. Maybe the extra money I will be paying will be with the education.
