Should I even bother applying to Broward?

U.S.A. Florida

Hello

I'm considering applying for the Broward nursing January 2013. I already have an AA.

My GPA in the prerequisites is 3.21. I will be taking microbiology and lab in the fall.

All I keep reading is horror stories about broward college nursing program.

I haven't taken the HESI nor the health core class. I think I can take health core online at Sheridan.

What certificates do I need to take, where can I take them?

I have also been considering Keiser, which is obviously more expensive than Broward.

I'm not sure what to do. English is my second language, and Broward college nursing program is probably going to be even harder for me, than for native speakers. On the other hand, Keiser nursing program graduation rate is a lot higher than Broward, so my chances of being successful there are much higher. What would you recommend me to do?

Should I apply to BC, get accepted and if for some reason I fail out, then go to keiser?

Applying to both will not hurt, Keiser seems more appealing due to the class size and the attention focus that is given to help the students pass and do well. If Keiser's tution was a little less, I would apply in a heart-beat. I would like too if money was not an issue for me personally.

Orlandoch, I am considering to get in BC nursing program too. Like you, English in my second language and I am really afraid because I am in my 40s and have to start again. I work at Broward health as MA and they probably help me with the career. How long take you to get all the pre-req? Thx

hello, it didn't take me long, maybe 1 year, anway I haven't applied to the program yet, because I still need to take other classes such as health core, hiv, etc .. I'm unemployed right now, and they require you to have health insurance while in the program, I cannot afford this, and my mother won't help me, cannot afford to help me either, I'm also afraid of failing due to english being my second language, I have decent grades, and can read advanced literature, but still doesn't change the fact that I'm at disadvantage, so I don't know what to do now, I have also read that people drop/fail like flies in the bc nursing programs, I read here that some girl said that when she started, there was like 200 students, and she graduated with 30 or something lol

I also got accepted into keiser, I took the TEAS, passed interview, everything, but cannot afford it, is way more expensive than broward college, you have to pay many things out of pocket, including health insurance, I have also read many bad things about keiser, but still wanted to apply, got accepted, but there is no way I'm going there, and getting 30k loans, makes no sense, I'm already in debt

I will probably go for LPN or something else, I have no idea what to do now

Hello well I know personally that BC does have a High failure rate because I was one of the students who did not make it. I attended the south campus last fall we started out with 60 I heard that there is only about 10 who is still on track. I did not not retrack back into the program because I am now focusing on pursuing my BSN. There is nothing wrong with taking the LPN route first. Best of Luck too You!

you were in the program right, did they require you to have health insurance?

what caused you no to make it, what would you say was the reason? your own fault for not studying much or they were trying to fail people? I don't know if I should apply to the program, I have almost everything to apply, and even though I'm smart, English is my second language which may put me at disadvantage

I feel like I should try, I have nothing to lose, and I fail, then I fail, but at least I tried, maybe I succeed, who knows, I'm unemployed with some savings, I'm afraid of investing money in the hesi exam, immunization, background, etc, etc, and then not being able to succeed in the program or failing in the first semester, and wasting all that money

I feel like I should give it a shot, you never know, but all i keep reading is the horror stories and how many people are dropping like flies out of the program, is like they want to get rid of many, is not in their benefit if many students pass and graduate i believe

Yes I was in the program last Fall and there was no requirement for health insurance but the requirements for the program have changed big time. I would put some of the blame on myself because I came into that program not knowing what to expect. I was thinking like a regular "college student" instead of a"nursing student". I passed pharmacology, dosage math and clinical but was unsuccessful with process 1 lecture. By the time I started to grasp the concept of critically thinking it was already too late and I failed the class by 2 points! I did not want to retrack back into the program and fail again because I know I would not be able to keep up with BC style of teaching nursing. So right now im finishing up my pre-reqs for my BSN. Im am NOT going to sit here and talk bad about BC because I have learned the foundation of thinking like a nurse from them. But just like nursing is not for everyone BC is not for everyone either. It all depends on You and your style of learning you may be able to be very successful in the program.I would tell u this go into the program prepared start doing as many NCLEX fundamental of nursing questions as you can.Trust nursing questions are NOT the same as regular general questions.
