Hello,
So for some background info, I graduated May '14, got my license June '14, was hired for medsurg/tele April '15 and was fired July '15 before my orientation ended. They sited that they didn't think I was ready to be alone on the floor and my orientation time was up. I started working SCI sub-acute rehab Feb '16 and I currently still work there.
I am looking to get in to Labor and Delivery. A coworker's niece works on l&d and handed my resume to her manager and the manager said she would like to see med-surg experience. So now I am looking for med-surg opportunities. Do you think I should keep my very first job on the resume? My thoughts are it will only add more questions to my hire-ability. I've been submitting my resume for months to multiple hospitals for L&D and haven't been invited for an interview. I've been applying to med-surg positions about a month and no calls.
Thanks all in advance!

Do you think I should keep my very first job on the resume?
I have worked as little as 3 months at two different facilities and always list all work experience since I got into the caregiving field, sequinhat.
For example, I was fired from one job after 5 years of employment for failure to meet job responsibilities. The Dept of Employment Services ruled that I was unfairly terminated and awarded me benefits, stating that a process was not followed and my employer acted unfairly.
Before the unemployment case was settled, I applied for a position as a nursing supervisor at another facility. When the Administrator and head of HR asked me why I left my last position I thought, "They, nor I, wanted me working there anymore", so I said, "It was a consensual decision". They didn't press me and I was hired.
I was fired from that position and attended a job fair just to get a $50 gift certificate for filling out an application. The director of psych at the institution sponsoring the job fair asked me why I left my last position. I said, "I got fired" and was hired and have worked at that institution for 15 years now.
In answer to your question, sequinhat, I'll let my experiences speak for themselves, and say, "Good luck to you!"

Your resume is expected to be tailored to show your strengths. You need not disclose negative work experience. However, a job application, which will include the obligatory statement about veracity and completeness, requires that you list all employment as requested.

A job you were only at for 3 months will look bad. It won't be seen as good solid med surge experience. Leave it off. It's hard to get into labor and delivery for even nurses who do have the med surg experience... I would apply for some other position at a hospital that has a L&D dept and see if you can transfer to L&D at a later time.

I would leave off any job that you didn't make it through orientation on
