Should I call to find out about a hiring decison?

I had an interview with the prospective employer and also gave the references to the HR. I haven't heard from them and want to call the manager to find out if he made a decision. He gave me a descion time period but no phone calls almost two weeks.

I'm thinking I'm not getting hired after all. Is it normal not to hear from the hospital unless they offer you a job? It would be nice if they would just inform me even though I'm not hired. I sent a thank you letter anyway.

Would it be okay to call the manager up? What would be appropriate to say when I hear that I'm not considered for the position?

Absolutely! You want them to know you are very interested in the position.

Is this a hospital? Sometimes they take absolutely forever to move on an application for employment.

Yes, I would say that you should call the manager asking if he or she how there hiring process is going and that you are still very interested. You should express your interest in detail again if you already have not and why. I just recently got hired by a hospital because I was very persistent about getting the job. The HR person told me that they like persistence and this is another reason I got the job. Emailing is another good way of communication. Good luck to you!

Nothing wrong with giving them a shout out folks get busy in HR and forget that someone is waiting patiently!!!!!and you know the holidays will delay the process a little longer sometimes.

Every one of my nursing jobs has begun with my doing a follow-up phone call to the manager I interviewed with. I definitely recommend you call. It seems to me this is the only way hospitals hire people! If you call, the job is yours! I always say Im calling to let them know I am still interested in the position, not desperate but ambitious.

Some places will wait for a follow up phone call from you despite what you were told. It is one way of them learning just how badly you want the job. If you haven't done it already, call the person who interviewed you today and tell them you haven't heard from them and were wondering when they were going to be making a decision on the job opening you interviewed for. If this person turns out to be the unit manager and you find out they hired someone else, don't give up. Put a call in to the nurse recruiter and tell this person you'd like to interview for any other nursing jobs that are available.

A similar situation happened with me and my present employer. I called asking them if they had come to a decision re our interview. I got the job on the spot. Yippeee. Now I'm working with the greatest people in the greatest place in the world and for the first time in my life I love my job. Sometimes the managers are busy with the day to day operation of the unit and a phonecall can quick it up
