I failed nursing school. I failed at the beginning at fundamentals. My school has me on the waiting list for next semester. Truth is i may never be accepted back.I been depressed for the past few weeks. I just cant figure out why i failed. I read the chapters vigorously. Did practice questions and read rationales. When the exams day comes, i think i did good (around 74 or above) but my scores come back in the 50s and 60s. Im not use to getting those type of grades in school.
What i wish to understand is how i failed. My school has a policy: no students are allowed to see exams after they have taken it. So i never could see what i did wrong. So i will never know why i failed with a D. There is another nursing RN program near by and i could start next month. However, im afraid to fail again. Im afriad to go through all that hard work and get nothing out again. Im afriad of wasting time when i should be pursing a career by now. IM 23 ALREADY TURNING 24 soon.
A part of me wants to leave nursing behind and pursue a different career path. Another part of me wants to stay because i already have alot of pre-request like anatomy . psychology, sociology, etc. Plus i got As in all of them!
What do you guys suggests? Im open to any ideas right now
I'm on the same exact boat as you are. My problem was that I underestimated nursing school the very first exam and didn't study well obviously I failed, I failed badly that first exam and bam it hit me hard to realize THIS IS NURSING SCHOOL! I did okay on the next exams but that 67 f*cred me up and failed the course for 2 pts ugh. I'm 26 and I will give it another shot please try try again. I'm pursuing a degree in public health as a back up since they count all your nursing pre-requisite!
DON'T GIVE UP! I HEAR YOU!
I would say. Don't give up. I failed out of nursing school too. In fact, I'm repeating the semester now. I am 3 weeks in. Do I understand the material? Well, I think I do. So, why did I fail? My school makes us take a hesi exam and I did not score well. Am I upset? Heck yeah, I am. Especially when I am an LPN, have taken an nclex exam before, and pass all my teachers exam. But guess what this hesi exam predicts it all. According to my hesi score I will not pass my rn boards. Sigh;( what can I do? All I know is that I want to be an RN, the only way to achieve that goal is repeat the semester and get better at HESI testing. Good luck and keep at it. I have a wall paper on my phone that says "Don't give up, don't ever give up." Look, I just turned 24 so we are around the same age do anything you can to motivate yourself. I couldn't imagine doing anything else.
I have invested so much in nursing. Buying apps and review books. I don't want to leave nursing just yet. I scored a 80 on the finals. I think that proves that I am competent to some degree.
Im considering signing up for a LPN program starting next month. The price is $20,000 and I will need a loan. I have never taken out a loan before and avoided it like the plague. I'm not even sure if that's the smartest move right now.

Having a back up plan is smart. I didn't have one and now I'm scrambling to make something happen soon. And I will try again!
Does the other RN program have an LPN to RN component? If so, getting the LPN license, then going LPN to RN, might be a good idea. While in LPN school, concentrate on learning how to study nursing. Then you will be prepared to return to an RN program. I would not go back to the program that would not review exams. That program failed you. You deserved a better approach to your learning problems. Best wishes.
What 20K??? What school is that??? I'm also applying to LVN programs and 3 RN programs. I wouldn't mind paying that money lol I'm in the bay area CA btw

Agreed! I really believe I could of passed if I knew my problem. Was it not reading the question carefully? Lack of understanding? Lack of sleep? I was in the dark this semester and it frustrated me a lot. I didn't have motivation to study for the finals. What's the point? My study routine was ineffective obviously and didn't know how to improve it.
i have taken classes before where I saw my silly mistakes and corrected them on the next exams. My grades went up and I did well at the end. What's even worst is I'm getting bashed from my parents for failing. They think I'm incompetent and don't know what I went through.
I make sure I ask this school if they allow test reviews!
Hey OP.. just wanted to share that I am in a very similar situation as you. I too am 23 years old (will be 24 this summer) and I had a very hard time in nursing school. I went to nursing school for a year (2 semesters) and struggled very much with the test questions. I was becoming a C average student and this upset me very much because I had only gotten A's and B's in all of my pre req's. The professors were the most uncaring, miserable, negative people (very nurse like right??) and most of them were nearing retirement age... if I went to them for help they hardly did anything and would tell us to change our major. I ended up just failing a class by a point or two and I wanted no more to do with nursing. I have felt very depressed for the past year and I too was asking myself questions like "am I really good enough for this". So it's normal.
Anyway I was so turned off to nursing that I explored other options in healthcare so I turned to Respiratory Therapy and researched the field. I even had a chance to shadow one in a hospital and was pleased with the experience. I applied to a community college RT program and just received my acceptance letter a couple of days ago in the mail. I have orientation in two weeks and will be starting in September. This way I can still use all of my science pre reqs and be on the path to a good career in healthcare.. I know things don't always work out as they should.. I had always pictured myself graduating on time at 22. But things will work out. Take the time to explore all of your options and decide what you really want for yourself. You can do it. Best of luck
This is encouraging knowing that someone has been in my shoes. My professors were exactly as you described. My little brother is respiratory therapy school as well. I was given the opportunity to apply but choose to go to nursing school because nursing was bit more flexible. I have actually decide to go into health education field instead. Nerveless, i do hope you succeed in your RT route.Let me know how that turns out.
