  1. Hey guys, just feeling down about the start of my nursing career. I am 4 months into my nursing career, i am in the ICU at a small community hospital. I am 4 days of orientation, orientation was 12 weeks. I just feel like i am constatly being screamed at and being belittled. I want to leave but its hard to find a job here and I dont know if ill ever get into the icu again as a new grad. yesterday I got yelled at by my nurse manager because i was not prepared when EMS came to transfer my patient to hospice. The thing was I told her that my patient was going to be transferred to hospice about an hour before EMS came, the family had signed the papers and then I went to let her know. Well, when EMS came they required a few documents such as the patient DNR sheet, face sheet, H&P, etc. I did not know this. She just kept saying, see.. this is why you let us know ahead of time just being very unprofessional in front of the EMS workers. I did let her know and she know I did, at some point before the EMS arrived the patient family even spoked to her and thanked her for our service here she hugged the family members. so how the heck did she not know (annoyed). I guess I should have asked for help with the process, because the patient still had their foley and midline in. I didn't know the patient could not be transferred with those things. anyways, I am thinking of looking for another job, before they let me go.
  2. Hey guys, I am a new grad who just started in the icu. I am feeling discouraged because recently my preceptor decided she no longer wanted to work with me. She told the manager that I was not receptive of her teaching. Orientation is 12 weeks long and thins was my 6th week. I am now assigned to a new preceptor and I will be starting with her tommorow. I guess, I have already given up. I wanted to be an ICU nurse, but I have been feeling so depressed and discouraged lately. I guess part of the problem is that I just moved to a new state to start this career. I have no family or friends here to discuss my feelings with. Just down in the dumps. I am not sure what to do now. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this. Any words of advice would help at this point.
  3. Hello I am graduating from an ADN program next tuesday. I have already submitted everything to the board of nursing, all I have left to do is to graduate and take my NCLEX. I am not going to lie, I don't have any motivation left. I just bought uworld and I have been doing like 30 questions a day but there are days when I don't do any. So, I don't know. really scared about my NCLEX.
  4. Hi guys, well, its finally here. This friday I am taking my last exam for nursing school. It's the HESI. I have been anxious all week. There are days when I get really excited about completing nursing school and moving on with my life and there are days where I'm thinking what if I don't do well on the hesi, what should I do with my life then. I hate this feeling, fear of the unknown is really taking its toll on me.
  5. Hello, I am in my final semester in nursing school. I just took my third exam yesterday and received a 76%. My spirits are crushed and I'm honestly not motivated anymore. I really need to get motivated again, I hate this feeling of trying to push myself to study and pass my other exams. I did well on the previous two exams, 88, 93. I'm just really down about the fact that my grade went from a 90 to an 85. We have two more exams and then the hesi. I really need my grade to be as high as possible before the Hesi. I cannot depend on the Hesi to help keep my grade above an 80 and pass the class. And I cannot be at an 80, going into the hesi, this will just freak me out knowing that I have to get a really good score on the hesi in order to pass. I'm having really bad anxiety now. and I think I really just need someone to talk to. we took a practice hesi three weeks ago and I scored the third highest in the class, but really you never know with these exams. What if I don't do as well on the real one. I think failing an exam really change the positive attitude that I had in the beginning of the semester, now Im just worried. I'm so scared for these next two weeks. Seems, like her exam are getting harder because i studied the same way like I did for the other two, but somehow did not pass. ughhh!
  6. Ok, so far I have solved 18 of my 20 math calculation problems. These 2 are similar. 1. An IV infusion time is 13 hr 20 min. What is its completion time if it was started at 10:45 a.m.? 2. A 20gtt/mL set is used for a restart of 750ml of D5W at 3:03 p.m. at a rate of 32 gtt/min. Infusion time_________Completion time_____________ I feel like I have done similar problems in the beginning of my program. But now that I'm going into my senior year we are redoing things that we have already been taught. Unfortunately, I seem to have forgotten how to do them. For the second problem. I did this. 750 X 20gtt/1ml X 32gtt/1 min. I got 15000/32=468.75 I divided 468.75 by 60 minutes to get 7.8125. so 7 hours. then I got the .81 from 7.8125 and multiplied by 60 minutes. so, .81 X 60= 48.6. So, my answer was 7 hours and 49 minutes for infusion time. for completion time I just counted from the time started 3:03, which gave me 10:00. then i added my 48 minutes to the 3 minutes and got 51. so 10:51. I'm sure there are simple steps to solving these problems.
  7. I solved it and did the the other problems that were similar. 287.7 mcg X 1 MG/400 MG X 250ML/400 MG X 60/1 hour =4315500/400000=10.78 Now, I'm stuck on another problem. lol But thank you for your help with this.
  8. 400,000/250=1600
  9. Well we have 400 mg if we convert to mcg we have 400,000 mcg
  10. The total mcg in 250 ml is 250,000mcg. I divided 250/0.001
  11. There was this formula that I saw online (ATI website): (dose/kg/time) (time converted to hourly) (weight in kg)/ (drug concentration per ml) I started plugging the numbers in according to the formula. (3mcg/kg/min) (95.9 kg)/250 ml. My hunch is I have to multiple 3mcg by 95.9 kg this equals 287.7 kg/mcg then convert to mg.which is 0.287 mg. I converted to mg because the solution is in mg. But my answer is not matching the answer sheet.
  12. This is a two-step ml/hr flow rate problem. I need help please. Medicaton is ordered at the rate of 3mcg/kg/min for an adult weighing 95.9 kg. The solution strength is 400 mg in 250mL D5W. Calculate flow rate to the nearest tenth mL. Is there a formula that can be applied here.
  13. our school have hesi exam each semester. This is considered our final exam for the semester. So since I was taking OB/peds I had a OB/peds hesi. In our final semester we will have a cumulative hesi this is everything we have learned from the beginning starting with fundamentals. I will be studying over summer break for this one. Yikes!
  14. Well.. just took my ob/peds hesi. I scored a 1023 which converts to 93% in the hesi world. I am now a senior nursing student. I used hurst, hesi comprehensive book/questions, and saunders to study. This was a class that I was reepeating because I failed the hesi last semester. I just want every nursing students who are struggling to know that you can do it! It's hard but do not give up! last semester hesi I scored a 483 (embarassed..lol)I received 0 points and I studied for a month. This time around I since I was repeating the class I kept all my notes and started studying in the beginning of the semester that's 6 month of studying for the hesi. I got the full 50 points. Of course, toward the end when everyone was freaking out about the hesi, I wasn't because I've been studying all along. Now since I will be on summer break for 2-3 months I will be studying for my final hesi come december. My goal is to do 10,000 nclex questions by the end of summer. All thanks to god!
  15. well... just got done taking my ob/ped hesi. Happy to say that I am a senior nursing student. I received a score of 1023 which converts to 93% in the hesi world. I am a senior nursing student!!! Bitter sweet moment, knowing that if I hadn't failed I would have been graduating next week with my original cohort. This time around I used the hesi comprehensive book, saunders book and cd, and hurst review. If I had to say which one helped the most I would say the hesi comprehensive book did and the questions that comes with the book. Also there was a sticky on here that discussed how to break down the questions: who is the client? what is the problem? and what are you asking of me? This is the method I used as well as eliminating wrong answer choices. Well, you know what I will be doing this summer? studying my BUTT off for my final semester hesi. This one will be cumulative!!!! AAAAHHHH
