Is there a national shortage of Nurse Practitioners who are willing to precept? I am finding it very difficult to find a preceptor, MD's are very quick to offer what they have, unfortunately as a NP student I have to have a FNP/NP for at least 50% of my 704 hrs. As Nurses/NPs we are asking and fighting for autonomy but not willing to help train more NPs to fight this cause. It is so easy for PA's to have their rotations lined up for them but can not do that for nursing? I am seeing more and more schools (Not just online schools) shifting that responsibility onto students. I love my school, great state school; but this issue of finding preceptors on our own bothers me, and they tell you today, when school starts in 10 days. However, if we are unable to find one, then "the school will step in". I just don't get it! I taught undergrad was difficult with unreasonable demands, but graduate school too? Are nurses in a way still eating their young? or now they are just putting hot sauce on it!

I am a whnp student at the university of Cincinnati are you still precepting students or know any ob\gyn in the area that will?

I am a PMHNP student in need of a preceptor in the spring of 2017 in danbury ct, bronx ny,westchester county ny. Pls it will be highly appreciated if anyone is interested in being my preceptor. Thanks

I am trying to find a NP preceptor in primary care, family or internal medicine to precept from August to December 2016 (one day a week, 12 hours a day to see 12+ patients) in the south Florida area (Broward, Dade, Palm Beach Counties). I have joined two state organizations, I have called NP's listed through the AANP website, cold called clinics, free health clinics, doctor's offices and even contacted a company that assists with finding a preceptor (for a fee). Anyone have any other suggestions? If it is this difficult to get a preceptor, I don't think I can continue with the program.

I'm spending more time looking for a preceptor for my final two terms than studying for my content this semester. This has been one of the most frustrating and time consuming tasks of the entire program.

We would get a lot more yes's to our requests if everyone didn't have to be so productivity driven. I'm so discouraged at this point.

How much help has your program been?

I finished my program years ago and had to find my own placement. Truly, what a nightmare. The first one turned out to be severely personality disordered and refused to give me credit. I had to start from scratch.

All I can say, is this is what separates the men from the boys, pardon the expression. How much do you really want to be an NP?

Essentially, the schools are taking in more students than they should.

Only in Nursing has preceptor-ship been done out of the goodness of one's heart.

All the others that teach MD's and PA's have been paid.

Well hello mellebelle, I currently live in the triangle area and have been searching for a preceptor for months. I've spent money on various sites which promise to lead me to a NP preceptor, however, none of those preceptors have responded to my emails. I hope you are still willing to precept, I need you. Unfortunately, my clinical coordinators have already made very clear to me that my summer 2018 registration will be cancelled if I do not present wit a preceptor.

Please reach out to me.

Lol at the students on here looking for preceptors , NP's do not owe you a preceptor spot. Your frustration is yours. Begging for help is getting you the results you want ?

Here's an unpopular opinion . If you're a student and you're aware that you'll need to find your own preceptor , you might want to polish your networking skills, stop whining , and act like the leader that an RN is supposed to be . That might mean you have to secure your preceptors well in advance of clinical time. Being a critical thinking nurse, you know that arranging a preceptor will have to be approved by the school and that may take some admin time. So start now , and get next semester lined up as well. Research your options and network before you're enrolled .

The smart students will understand that there's many benefits to finding preceptors . The school is not there to spoon feed you . NP's are autonomous leaders who utilize resources and find a preceptor fashioned around their personal goals. That's better than getting shoved into a prearrangement by the school and NP that in the long run may not be the best clinical experience. You're complaining about diploma mills who take your money and give you a degree.. well why not be the initiative and help determine what your clinical hours will be. Are you going to stand around observing because its required or would you rather match up with an NP who shares similar goals . Nurses are not the only emerging professionals to have to arrange clinicals.

Will you really be ready to practice with any autonomy if you have trouble arranging clinicals? Or are you content to stand there helplessly because you think you deserve a NP's volunteer time , to whom you'll give nothing back .

I did a refresher course for my RN about ten years ago . I had to arrange my own clinical hours to complete the refresher . I had a narrow deadline and I'd been out of nursing for many years and didht have any recent contacts . Guess what? I busted butt, didn't give up, and landed an intense preceptorship with the oncology nurses at the Mayo clinic .

Go after what you want . You're preparing for a leadership role .

Prove it .

Is there an NP on this site willing to precept me in the West Michigan Area? I am searching for a preceptor and clinical site without any luck. Preceptors can be MD, DO, or NPs.

Hi. I know this might be a reach but I am looking for a preceptor in the Tri-State area (Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus). I am currently enrolled in Ohio University's FNP program. Looking for clinical rotaions starting Jan. 2019. Would you or anyone you might know be willing to precept? I am looking forward to the day I can pay it forward but right now I am stressing about even being able to locate a willing preceptor. Any advice or leads would be very much appreciated. I am willing to pay $5/ clinical hr to an approved preceptor. I'm a quick understudy and will do everything to make the preceptor's life easier, not harder. Looking for Women's Health, Pediatrics and primary Care.
