Has anyone gotten a decision letter? I called last Friday, and she said she was working on them.
Anxiously waiting!
Tripleoxer, thank you SO MUCH for the book suggestions! I'm heading to Amazon right now. Also, thanks for the advice about NURS 095. I don't think I'll need the support as much as the info and I'd rather spend the money on books or supplies. I'm an independent learner so if I can get all I need from reading on my own and the class doesn't add anything, then I'll just read on my own.
You are a sweetie extraordinaire for taking time to give us newbies so much solid info we need. Thank you!
Orientation was AWESOME! One of the best parts was the panel of students just ahead of us. They had someone representative of just about every student: working, parents, no experience in health care, ESL - each one excited and encouraging. I was in awe of the mother of two younger children who worked two 12-hour shifts on the weekend during school. I hope you get the same panel or a similar one.
Some tips to smooth the process: One of those two copies of everything is for you, so organize that way. Highlight your name and the date in yellow on all your immunization documentation. You won't be allowed to register until all your documentation is in. (I'd say 80% of our cohort did NOT get to register; some of the deficiencies were serious enough that they may be bumped. Whoa to those who did not start HepB!)
Good idea to bring some flyers to pass out to find potential roommates. Also, I'd be interested in sharing if I could have a teeny, tiny space to sleep in 3 or 4 nights during the week; I'd be in West Seattle on weekends. It could be a large closet or a cot in the basement. It's just such a miserable, time-sucking commute to Shoreline. I just got a job offer from Providence in West Seattle so I won't have much time to spare.
Can't wait to hear how it went for you!
Thanks for the info! You would think people who worked hard enough to get into the nursing program would get the documentation/vaccines, etc. I think I have everything ready. I was glad that my titer showed immunity to the hep B series I had in middle school.
Gotta find a yellow highlighter (not my favorite color to use).

I know, right, I mean (splutter, splutter.) I was amazed at how many people didn't get registration forms; I think from the looks on their faces that the instructors were, too.
Oh, I may not have mentioned this: All your certifications need to be current through the end of the quarter (Dec 5th, I think?) or you'll need to renew them before the quarter begins. (Things like your CPR card, for example.) And you need the 2014 flu vaccine in September. (My doctor's office won't even have the vaccine until Oct 28 so it looks like I'm $40 out of pocket to Walgren's or Bartell's or some other pharmacy.)
Also, I'm serious about the closet! Please keep me posted on how the housing situation is going. Where do you live now, by the way?
It went well, although I think your classmates scared us with the amount of work. It is good going into it with the right mind frame and knowing that a 4.0 likely won't happen and that is okay! My cohort is very diverse, but I think having people from different cultures and stages of life will be a positive.
Do you wear scrubs on nonclinical days?
We wear scrubs to the hospital on the days we go to pick our patients and we wear them to skills labs. No other time outside of clinical days. It is really hard to describe how much work there is. You just can't grasp it until you are in it. It was a shock to me. Lol, and still is at times. It takes a few quarters and then you will figure out what works for you and how to sort through what "needs" to be done. Everyone has their own way of studying and sorting it out. Soooo excited that there is a new group starting!! That means we are getting closer to being done =) yay!

I am part of the 10qtr program so we have a totally different schedule than the 6qtr program. The clinical hours can be all over the board. First quarter being LTC will be days. They do offer weekends sometimes from what I hear. And when at the hospital there may be evenings. We have clinicals all over the place, Harborview, UW, Evergreen, Providence, Swedish downtown, Swedish Edmonds, NW hospital, Richmond Beach Rehab, Crista, and many others.
