Shocked- I'm on CPS registry?!

I'm hoping someone has some advice or experience with this because I'm really discouraged. After waiting several weeks for my ATT, I contacted pcshq and was told that something had shown up on my Adam Walsh CPS background check and that was why the BON hadn't approved my application. I was really stunned because I had no idea I was on the CPS Registry. I've worked in health care for years and never had a problem with background checks, and some of my jobs have been home care and working with vulnerable populations, which I thought required a CPS check.

My children are grown now, but when they were little someone called CPS on me with false neglect allegations. They visited me a couple times and that was that. I wasn't neglecting my kids, I thought that was clear to them, and I never got notice of anything. Come to find out more that apparently CPS recorded the case as supported.

Has anyone had any experience with something like this? How did it turn out and any advice for me? Thanks.

Hello

I don't know enough about it to really answer but after you get your record, I'm guessing your next stop should be an attorney.

Nobody is perfect. I hope one bad choice won't follow you forever like this. We all have made mistakes, the different is you got caught (DUI). I hope this gets resolved.

I was wondering if you had heard anything back yet? I'm still waiting to hear anything at all from them..

Did you hear anything back yet? This seems strange. I got into nursing school and also obtained my CNA certification. 5 years ago my ex husband got into trouble and since I was not in the state at the time, they took my kids from BOTH of us and placed them with my ex husbands mom. It took me 2 months to get them back (a judge immediately placed them back with me when I finally was able to get a hearing).

I am filling out my ATT form in 2 weeks, so I'm hoping this isn't an issue.

I called Professional Credentialing Services, and they were nice enough to email the board to see what the hold up is. All the board would tell them is my file is "under review", she urged me to reach out to the board, but the only one who responds there is a paralegal who informed me that an investigator had been assigned and I would receive a letter with their name. She told me that this past Tuesday, and still no letter. It's interesting because every time I speak with PCS they tell me that my file is the longest they've seen wait. Not sure if they just keep losing/forgetting my file until I call? Seems to be the only time my application makes any progress is when I call.

Maybe seek advice from an attorney via your local Legal Aid office. There's something holding it up and you need to know exactly what it is in order to be prepared to fight it. I wouldn't openly guess what's the hold up with them though. Let them tell you exactly why there's a holdup. But then again, maybe they're just following up. If you've been fine for years I wouldn't be concerned. Patience.

RNHopes, I'm hoping you got the letter by now. I received a letter that my case is under investigation. I sent in my statement- I have no paperwork since it's been almost two decades. My investigator seems very efficient and responded to my email quickly, so I'm grateful for that. I just don't know what the timeline is for this. It's so stressful not knowing what will happen or how long it will take. And the $$ thing is hard too- my student loans will be due in a couple months which would be no problem if I was making a nurse's salary, but I'm not.

I hope you're still checking in here, RNHopes. Keeping you in my thoughts!

Yup! I've been meaning to post an update, but I got a letter maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago. The woman assigned to my case seems actually really understanding and helpful; she seemed to genuinely care. She wasn't able to give me a time-line,  but  now that I'm a little more used to the situation,  my patience has returned and I'm feeling more hopeful again. I'm definitely starting to study for the NCLEX hard again, as I think that something will happen within a couple months or less... Fingers are crossed!

P.s. I bet you'll be totally fine! Since it's been so long and you have a good reason for the situation,  I bet it'll be no big deal in the end.

Hi RNHopes,

I'm glad that you have a helpful investigator too. It is encouraging- I felt better after I was contacted because they really do look at the case and circumstances. I think you'll be fine too- you did nothing wrong.

I need to start studying again too- lost motivation for a while. But focusing on the goal and keeping up with studying is the best thing either of us can do.

Keep me posted!

Hahah! Same here! I just bought Saunders and Kaplan books.. if I can help with anything with studying, send me an inbox!! ?

best of luck!

Hi RNHopes,

Thanks so much! I can't send private messages yet- hopefully soon I'll be able to. I was doing UWorld for a while, but after renewing twice it was getting too expensive. I've heard Saunders is great- I might check out the LPN version.

Have you heard anything yet? I haven't- it sure is a long process. I did some research and the BON only meets once a month, on the second Wed of the month. So that explains why it takes a while.

Oh well. Some days I feel so upset about it and wish I never even bothered going to school, and other days I'm sure that it will be fine.

Hope you're doing well and that we'll both get good news soon ?.

I got to talk to my compliance officer, sent them everything I could think of, and was able to give them a statement. From there, I guess it's in the Board's hands, but sounded like it was still several months of waiting ahead of me.

Speaking as an LPN, it will definitely be worth the wait. (I say that while actually thinking the exact same thing about the wait for the NCLEX-RN, some days I literally want to just give up). In the long run, I think it'll be worth it, but staying motivated is increasingly difficult.
