Right now I have an offer in Texas (15 hrs away from my current contract & 24 hrs away from my tax home), should I ship my car or do a rental car? I really dont want to drive and put the miles/wear & tear on my car.

Definitely ship your car. I did this to go from Maryland to Texas. I used Red carpet auto and it cost about $700. Worth the money but make sure you give yourself a few days buffer in case the driver runs into issues delivering your car on time.

Thank You! I will look up that company today

I've never understood shipping a car. In addition to the $700, you are looking at perhaps a similar amount for a one way plane flight. You may not be able to ship the car with your belongings, so there are extra shipping costs and hassles. All this to miss two very easy days of driving across the beautiful United States, and not have a way to get around at either end for a few days at least while the shipper has the car? Plus possible damage to your car?

Your choice of course, but it is certainly a luxury usually reserved for the rich.

You're right as far as the expense. That would be $700 each way to ship it. plus a $300 round trip flight. But I would hate to put the miles on my car and take the drive. I also wouldnt mind if the agency would just cover a rental car in my contract. That would make my situation much easier.

I'll agree with Ned. The drive can be the best part of traveling - so much out there to see and experience as you go.

It sounds as though you've already decided what to do this time, but in the future you really should consider taking the plunge and driving to a contract, allowing extra time (a day or so) over the projected travel time to stop along the way.

The drive is not bad at all!!!! I moved to Texas in july 2011 (HATE IT!) from Illinois. I hope your not worried about putting miles on your car when you get here because everything is mostly far from each other and your going to do a lot of driving when you get here.
