Sheridan Tech- Hollywood

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently investigating LPN programs in Florida and have narrowed it down to Sheridan Tech. Does anyone have any valuable information to share regarding this program? I am looking to begin this summer.

Hi! Dark_Light & Favored1,

I am also looking to start in the LPN Program at McFatter. Dark_Light did you take you TEAS in September 24th @ McFatter? If yes, then I was there with you too =) I did well on Math and the 2 English but I failed Science. I need to retake it next week. Science really really scared me. Unfortunately I cannot remember any of the questions . I just remember one about that mountain expanding and the autotroph one as well.

I heard that there are 5 semesters at McFatter for LPN but it is done in a year. Do you know how long each semester is? Also are clinicals at a different times than class times?

Thank you so much

Hi there.

I was a bit anxious about the science part, but passed with flying colors. I was so relieved! Now that you know what to expect, I am sure you will do just fine! :specs:

I believe that each semester in the Broward County school system is 9 weeks long. So that's roughly 45 weeks out of 52 possible. If you add in holidays, teacher work days, summer & winter vacation ... it seems about right.

I was told that clinicals are held during your scheduled program hours... so if you are there from 8-2:30 PM, then your clinical days would follow the same hours. Whatever program you are in... your clinicals should follow the same hours as your normal school schedule.

I received a message from the school asking me to attend PN Orientation... guess this means I have been accepted! :w00t:

I will fill you in on the details as soon as I receive them.

Anyway, best of luck on the TEAS!

...Did you get your scores as soon as you finished? Or did you have to wait until the next day? Well I'm sure Lilian will let me know... that's if I can actually get her on the phone, lol!...

I'm so sorry... I somehow missed this question. The scores for the TABE were not given the same day. McFatter's program counselor made appointments with all in attendance (going for PN) to discuss the scores. So two days later or so, you should receive your score... if Sheridan follows the same method.

But,.... here's a way to know if you are on the right track. The person who proctored the test at McFatter told us that those seeking admission to the PN program had to test at a A or N level (I believe N was the 2nd letter). You take a pre-test that tells the computer which level test to give you. If you see an A or N at the top of your test screen, you know are halfway there! Anything else would mean you have to take a remedial course or retest.

The TEAS test scores on the other hand are available instantly. Once you are done with the test you submit your answers and see them on the screen. Your proctor will also give you a print out for your records.

So did Lilian ever get back to you?

Hi! Dark_Light,

Thank you so much for replying to my post. Congratulations!!!!!!!! on passing the TEAS exam. I am really very happy for you. I am hoping and praying that I pass it this time too.

Also congratulations on being accepted in the program.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful information that you provided me. It really helps me understand the program a lot. Thank you so much and good luck with everything.

Glad I could help... and keep us updated! Hopefully there will be a few of us starting at McFatter come January! :yeah:

Hey there Dark_Light!! It's cool, you were very informative with everything anyway. I called & left a message & no one called me back. So I called again & I believe her name is Ms Fiendberg (or something like) answered & advised me that I first need to come in & sit for an orientation & test & then go from there. She sounded like she was in somewhat of a rush, but she basically answered what I needed to know. I planned on going yesterday evening to orientation but of course there was NO SCHOOL!!! I can be rather dizzy sometimes. But anywho, I'll be there tomorrow, after work that is. As far as testing, I went on Sheridan's website & took their practice test (basic skills) & did farely well so I'm really not so nervous about this one anymore. Well I'll be talking to you soon!! Gotta get some work done

Hi Future RN! Nice to hear from you. I'm sorry to hear about your needing to retest. That is exactly what I was worried about. I plan on attending Sheridan Tech. I thought about McFatter simply because of their schedule (8am-2:30).... that is what would work best for me. But I live closer to Sheridan so.... But I am looking forward to being accepted into the January class so we'll see what happens. Best of luck to you & I know you'll do just fine! Keep us posted :heartbeat

Hi! Favored1,

Thank you so much for your post. I do appreciate it so much. Yes, I am retesting for Science this Wednesday and am really panicked. I feel like I am so close yet so far. :imbar

Yes, McFatter's Schedule works perfect for me and I am hoping that I get in. I will definitely keep you informed as to how my test went next week.

Good Luck to you with everything.

Hi Dark_Light. I hope all is well with you. I was just writing you to let you know that I have finally taken the TABE & am just waiting for my results. I tested yesterday & am scheduled to meet with a counselor on Monday @1:30. But I will need to reschedule for another day as the big wigs will be at my job that week so you know how that goes!! I did see what you were talking about as far as the letter at the top of the screen, it was an A but on the last section (Language) it was a D!! I haven't been able to ask anyone what that means or anything & the proctor was really non-chalant. I was soooo nervous...I remember what you said about not being anxious but that went out the window when I started the test! The waiting is really killing me:sfxpld:. Anywho, thanks for listening & I'll keep you posted....hopefully I won't to remediate:selfbonk:. Talk to you soon.

Hi there Favored1. Don't stress. I am sure you did well on the TABE. :)

I have not posted in a while since orientation was kind of a bust. Turns out it was for interested students that had not yet completed any of the steps for application to the PN program. (I had every step completed... so it was a waste of time.) But I did get some new information: a list of textbooks / materials needed for the program AND after harassing (not kidding) the program secretary, I got my acceptance letter for Core.

I'm registered now and will be starting on Oct 27th... can't wait! I have tons of questions for the instructor and as soon as I get those answers, I will post more info here. I am not entirely sure, but I would think that those of us who complete Core this semester are automatically accepted/enrolled for the Jan program. *fingers crossed* I wouldn't want to have to wait until March... or worse June! :(

Oh and the uniforms.... at least at McFatter are puke-y teal tops and white pants. Ugh! I saw some students wearing all black scrubs when I last visited the campus and got all excited... for nothing. Oh well.

Take care and stay positive!

Congratulations to ya!!! Did you have to pay the $239 out of pocket for the CORE class? When I spoke with the counselor she mentioned that I will need to bring $239 & $30 for the TEAS. I was thinking at least for the CORE it could be paid through financial aid.?. I know that if you have some sort of certificate/ experience & CPR certification you won't have to pay, I believe that's what she was saying. I can just imagine how excited you are about starting & I'm pretty sure that since you're officially enrolled you will definitely be accepted for the January term! I'll keep you posted as soon as I know my results...should I need to remediate anything, I'm going to do it like yesterday!!! Again congratulations on your acceptance. Talk 2 ya soon:bow:

Thanks! I am beyond excited! Only 1 more week for core to start!

:hpygrp:

I don't qualify for any sort of financial assistance (except loans and Broward tech schools don't offer it)... so yes, I paid the $239 for core and $30 for Teas out of my own pocket. :(

Have you applied for financial aid yet? I know when I initially met with my program counselor, she mentioned I would have to schedule a separate meeting/interview with them, in additional to filing out all sorts of forms and the FAFSA online.

I have my basic nursing assistant certification, first aid/CPR certification... but chose not to be exempt from core. It's been a few years since I last took these courses and I am a bit out of practice. So anyway, that is what your counselor meant... if you have these certifications (say you're a CNA/PCT), you can skip the core class and jump right into PN term 1.

So are you still meeting with your program counselor next week? Good luck with your interview... and I'm sorry to have gotten you all worried about the TABE test version. I know seeing that D on the language part of the exam must have scared you. But I think I have good news...

I googled TABE and this is what I found:

"There are five levels to the TABE. The Limited Literacy level is usually given to students whose primary language is not English and they have a limited understanding of written English. The other levels are easy (E), medium (M), difficult (D) and advanced (A.)

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/405888/an_overview_of_the_tabe_test.html?cat=4

So I really think that as long as you're feeling confident in your performance on the language section, you must have passed.

Take care!
