Just thought I'd share!
I've worked private duty home health for this one pt for over a year now. She doesn't talk much, and I spend 80% of the shift providing interventions for agitation and self-injurious behavior. Social interaction is sadly not usually encouraged or a big part of our day as this leads to "excitement" which quickly turns to agitation, then the tantrums follow. This is not ALWAYS the case, but more so than not.
She also does not say much. Just a few phrases that she says sometimes. Most of the time it's random. Example: "Zoinks!" (Scooby-Doo) lol
Well, the other day I was trying to eat my lunch quietly while she enjoyed one of her old movies that never fails to please. Without any warning, I let out a loud burp! And said Oh my goodness, excuse me! The pt turns to look at me as if she is just absolutely appalled, pauses a second, then shouts, "Eeeeewwww!" Then starts cracking up!! I mean this girl had the giggle fits. And of course I can't believe how tickled she is about it, so then I start laughing!
She thought it was the funniest thing!! It apparently made her day, because she was just a little ham the whole rest of the day. Glad I could make her happy lol

Private Duty is the place to be if you like unique moments like that! If not for HIPAA I could probably go on for hours...the good, the bad, and the totally unexpected!

So true! You're more than welcome!
Hahahaha I can only imagine. You know what, I just found out today that she did this because it's what her mom says to her dad. Lol
