I don't know about pericare, but every CNA I've ever worked with swears by shaving cream as a skin cleanser for pt's with persistant underarm odor.
There's no reason I can see why it CAN'T be used for peri care; i'ts an emollient, and has cleansing and degreasing properties. Just be sure to rinse well.
Funny haven't thought about this in long long time...when I was a CNA in the nursing homes around '94 was the only way we did peri-care...we didn't have wipes just the ol' wash clothes and cans of cheap shaving cream...but yes watch out for labia and open sores...usually some alcohol in those creams...ouch!

I work in a private rehab hospital which is funded pretty well and we have most items we need for patient care. I was in a hospital today, doing my second to last day of clinicals (graduate Thursday from LPN ) that depends soley on donations for patients' care so they do not have wipes, no rinse soap or periwash. All they have are washclothes and SHAVING CREAM. I just wandered if this was a common practice. I mean, it does smell pretty good and the LPN I followed today said it was good for their skin and did cleanse it. I have never had to worry about using that for my patients-is there any reason we should NOT use shaving cream if we have nothing else????
