SHARP new grad Fall 2018

Published

Hi everyone!

The nurse residency program applications opened up today for all of Sharp campuses and don't close until next week. I just submitted my application right now. I'm an internal applicant and it's my second time applying so I'm hoping this is the last time I'll have to do this! :bored: Just wanted to open up the conversation for other applicants! This time around, I chose Memorial Acute Care and Chula Vista :)

Has anyone had their interviews yet?

When is your interview? And do you know how many people they are interviewing?

I had my interview Monday (7/23) and yesterday I (7/24) received an email asking for my references!

I've heard nothing. I applied to MB NICU and L&D. Only two ppl that I knew applied are both "no longer under consideration". Have you heard anything.

I haven't heard anything either! I applied to MB NICU as well and second choice was at grossmont for a cardiac floor. My application status still says under consideration but it hasn't been updated since late June. I really hope we hear back soon...

I also interviewed on Monday (7/23) and got an email about references!

Which units did you interview for med surg?

Hello all I have an interview on Aug. 8 for memorial. If anyone can give any insight on the type of questions they ask during the interview I would greatly appreciate it. I heard it was more situational than behavioral is that true?

Specializes in MSN, RN, CCRN.

What unit do you have your interview?

Short stay observation

STATUS: I had an interview for Memorial MedSurg Monday (7/23) and received an email today (7/26) for a reference check. yay!

BACKGROUND: I applied to 2 floors. This is my second time applying. The last round I interviewed for a very competitive floor and didn't get the job. I have worked on a MedSurg floor at Sharp Memorial for a year now. Sharp definitely hires most people who have either been CNAs on the floor for >1 year and new grads who had preceptorships at Sharp.

INTERVIEW TIPS: have stories/scenarios prepared. Typical questions are "tell us why you got into nursing and what challenges you had along the way." "Tell us about....... receiving critical feedback, being in a leadership role, an ethical dilema" etc. Look back through care plans and think about all your clinical experiences so you can draw from them. Also, when they ask "do you have any questions for us" at the end, consider asking questions like: "Tell me what an exemplary nurse looks like on your floor/unit" or "What kind of unique resources do you have on your floor/unit". I think it shows you care more than just when/if you will get the job.

Hope this helps, and thanks everyone for sharing!

If you get the references check is that a good sign ?

Don't know for sure, but I believe it means you are slated for the position :)
