Sharing nclex my experience

Published

Let me start my thread with this lovely bible verse:

Don't worry--I am with you.

Don't be afraid--I am your God.

I will make you strong and help you.

I will support you with my right hand that brings victory. (Isaiah 41:10)

It's been 2 weeks since I've seen my name on Nursys. And still, it feels like heaven! :)

I am a BSN graduate from the Philippines last May 2013 and took NCLEX-RN exam for the first time on December2013. Unfortunately, I did not pass. On my first try, I tell you, I studied really hard; 8-10 hours a day, 5-6 days a week for 2.5 months. I read every content from my college books, previous notes, Saunders and Lippincott. I just did a few questions from Saunders and nclex 4000. 5 days before my exam, I've read some threads saying saunders and nclex4000 q's are easier than the real NCLEX. I panicked but I am fed up with studying and I just want it done so, I did not bother to resched. And yes I failed, It was devastating. It sucks especially if you did well on nursing school.

How I passed?

I took some time off to get back on my feet again. I stopped checking my FB and IG so that I can focus on studying. I decided to purchase Kaplan on-demand and took 5 weeks of intense review. The ff. are my kaplan scores:

Qt1: 75

Qt2: 70

Qt3: 68

Qt4: 76

Qt5: 63

Qt6: 70

Qt7: 77

Readiness test: 75

Q-bank average: 64, 80% used

Kaplan was my ONLY source this time. And did only 4-6 hrs of study a day compare to my 8-10 hour study previously.

By God's grace, I passed with 75q. =)

Aside from kaplan questions and the decision tree, I think being confident helped me passed. I remained calm and believed in myself. When I am discouraged, I just remind myself of that bible verse from Isaiah and believed that God will fulfill that promise. That He will bring me to that victory.

Some things to keep in mind: NCLEX is not a knowledge test. And so, don't bother much with the content. Just know the ESSENTIAL concepts and you'll be fine; don't bother with your kaplan scores. Some people who got low 60's and passed the exam with no difficulties and some failed with scores of high 70's; Trust yourself. If you let your thoughts be filled with negativities, you will most likely fail. How can someone succeed if in his mind, he has doubts; Have time to relax! Don't study if you don't feel like studying. It's useless. You will not absorb anything; If you fail the first time, or even the 2nd or 3rd, stand up again. Don't give up. It's hard but you have to fight for yourself. Failing will not define you as a nurse. Afterall, the RN license is still the same license no matter how many takes you had. Just keep aiming for that title.

And most of all, PRAY! This success will not be possible if God did not help me. Just pray every day, before after and during your exam. Just believe in Him.

God bless those who will take their NCLEX exam. YOU CAN DO THIS! :)

Congratulations...

It has the q-bank, qtrainers, content videos and guided review of questions (i really liked this the most, it helped understand the decision tree well)

Thank you! I'm looking forward for your NCLEX success. I'll have you all in my prayers. It was indeed a stressful experience (most stressful in my life so far) but hang on there future RN. Believe in yourself. You can do this!! :)

Thanks, Love81! I wanted to share my experience for I, too, was relieved by those nclex experience threads that I've read. If you are to take the NCLEX, just trust yourself and don't let stress defeat you. Don't let negative thoughts distract you. Just stay positive! You'll be successful. Claim it :)

Congrats RN! :) I'm also from Philippines and I'm proud that you passed! :D Cheers! :D
