It seems as though Shadyside S.O.N has really "revamped" their tuition forgiveness program. Any other potential applicants concerned about this? If so, what alternatives are you considering?
Heard it at the informational meeting. I'm very bummed.
Just curious to know if you still decided to attend Shadyside, and if so, how are you planning on paying for the $10,000 you're responsible for? I am going to a meeting this weekend, and will definitely inquire about this. Sounds like false advertising to me! Thanks.

After MUCH research, and going back and forth many, many times. I've decided to attend CCAC. I applied for Spring Semester admittance. From my perspective, the Shadyside option wasn't worth it. Two years of work for that amount of money didn't seem like a good deal to me. Another option to consider is Mercy. As of this past year, they were still offering full reimbursement for the two year committment.
As far as why I chose CCAC, with the Obama tax credit for tuition, and the fact that I didnt' have to sign a contract ot work for UPMC for 2 years. Plus, CCAC's schedule is a bit more flexible than Mercy or Shadyside.
Thanks for the input. I am also applying to UPMC Mercy. I didn't wanna have any more debt than I already have now, and although you're bound to UPMC for two years, at least you're guaranteed a position whenever you graduate! Good luck to you at CCAC. I hear it's a very good program as well!

"at least you're guaranteed a position whenever you graduate!"
Well, technically, they say you are not "guaranteed" a position after you graduate, but it seems from what I hear that just about everyone who graduates from UPMC's nursing program gets offered a job by UPMC
What I'm doing is taking my prerequisites in the Spring (starting January) at CCAC, and then I'm applying to Shadyside, CCAC and maybe McKeesport in the Fall. And then which one I attend will be based on finances and, of course, acceptance into the program.

Also, would I have to take all of my nursing pre-requisite classes before applying to the Nursing Program? I don't have any of the pre-reqs other than Microbiology, which I took awhile ago as a Biology major at Pitt. That would also add extra time and money...
I honestly can't remember what pre-reqs i needed before applying but i will check my paperwork and c what i can find. I'm 99% sure you need to have eng 101 and some type of math out of the way. Personally, for me anyway, I found it much easier to have all my pre-reqs out of the way before I applied to the nursing program because the actual nursing program was soooo demanding. Please let me know if I can offer any further advice in order to make your journey easier. Good Luck!

I already have a BS in Biology, so I have basic classes that are necessary for an undergraduate degree such as math, english, etc., but I haven't taken classes that are more specific to Nursing such as Nutrition, A+P, Sociology, etc. So I would have to fulfill all of those before applying to the program, correct?
From what I've found, which is more than 2 yrs old, the only pre-reqs required to have done is the basic biologies, math and english. You can take anything else during nursing school, however again my personal recommendation is to get as much as possible out of the way. My suggestion would be to meet with an advisor ASAP at the campus. Have you decided which campus you would like to attend? I went to South. On the wall in the advisors office there is a paper that outlines the pre-reqs required and then detailed semester info for the nursing program.

Is it 14K over the 2 year length or each year?
