Students are not responsible for $10,000 total. The rest, if you sign the promissory note, is covered. As compared to what it was before, it does not sound like a good deal at all!
I don't see how that's different than how my class did it. I signed a promissory note, and once I started working as a nurse for UPMC they took taxes out of my paycheck to cover the tax on my "loan." If I quit for UPMC before my contract is up, I will owe the original amount back, plus penalties, in a lump sum. While now that I am done with school I do seem to be locked into UPMC, at the time, it was a wonderful plan for me as I would have had to take out loans otherwise to pay for nursing school.
I'm very disappointed! However, and I'm passing this on so everyone out there can look into this. Part of Obama's new stimulus is a $2500 annual tax CREDIT, not write off, but CREDIT, for taking college courses in '09 and '10.
I'm not sure if nursing diploma programs qualify as college courses though. I'm going to investigate.
Sorry, typo; Students are RESPONSIBLE for the first $10,000. Basically, they are asking new student's to sign the same type of promissory note, (two years full-time), but for only $4,000+ reimbursement, for the two-year contract.
WHAT? When did this happen? I am a UPMC employee and I haven't heard about this. Will call Natalie tomorrow and clarify. ****.

It seems as though Shadyside S.O.N has really "revamped" their tuition forgiveness program. Any other potential applicants concerned about this? If so, what alternatives are you considering?
