Is anyone applying to the SFSU nursing program this fall? how are your stats looking like?
Thanks for clarifying that!!! Btw did you apply to the SFSU Canada BSN for FALL2013?? do you have an idea when we will be getting our letters? for some reason, this year is taking longer than ever
I did not apply for this cycle (still doing prerequisites). Unfortunately they didn't say when they'd be sending out letters, but they did acknowledge that it was taking a while this year.
Good luck!
One thing they mentioned at the Cañada info session is that they weren't yet sure whether they would hold classes over the summer session. So even though it is down to 4 semesters, it would still take 5 if they decide to not have classes over summer. Maybe they have made that decision by now.
ETA: Good luck to everyone who is waiting! I'm sure I'll be obsessively refreshing when it's my turn.
I was initially excited about the new 4-semester format until I looked closely at the curriculum. There is no longer a dedicated senior capstone practicum (preceptorship), which can make a big difference in whether you get hired as a new grad for a particular unit. At UCSF, for example, nurse managers will be more likely to hire you if you did a preceptorship/capstone/internship in a unit of that type. I called to ask SFSU if they still had a preceptorship, and I got a really vague answer that there were preceptors available in the clinical rotations, but the person wasn't sure. I got the sense that they just did away with it, but didn't want to say so outright.
They also have integrated pharmacology and pathophysiology into the different subject areas, which some people may prefer, but not having a dedicated patho or pharm professor to teach us this stuff may mean that important material may get glossed over without our even knowing it.
Here is the latest word from a rep in the SFSU Nursing Dept about the BSN applicants:
"1) School of Nursing decision notices will all have been sent prior to May 1st. Those who've been admitted will have two weeks to formally accept the university's admission offer.
2) It is indeed possible to accept admission offers from multiple schools, including CSUs. Upon deciding on a program of attendance the applicant will simply notify the other schools that h/she will no longer attend. Some schools will request a non-refundable tuition deposit so keep this in mind while navigating the offer acceptance process."

Regarding the SFSU Canada program, I just called and asked them about when we should be finding out and the lady said by the end of next week. I asked if she meant by the end of the month as next week is already May, but she confirmed it will be sometime next week. Oh well, also she said we wont get acceptance letters, instead they will send emails with acceptance notifications. So everyone be aware of your EMAILS
